The topics of this press release:
- Everything in one device: WLAN, Powerline, LAN

- Wi-Fi at 2.4 and 5 GHz and 500 Mbit chip for the best data rates

- Secure home network access and simple set-up via iOS/Android app

Aachen, Germany, October 10, 2012 – In the dLAN® 500 AV Wireless+, devolo expands its portfolio with an adapter that combines WLAN, Powerline and Ethernet. As a high-performance and compact communications hub for the home network, the new premium adapter connects all Internet-compatible devices in one room – simple, fast and secure. Alongside an integrated dual-band WLAN access point, the new flagship product of the dLAN 500 product line offers a switch with three LAN ports. In this way, WLAN coverage in the home – once characterized by gaps – is simply and efficiently optimised. In future, WLAN is always available exactly where the user needs it. And in addition, up to three cabled devices, such as Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, PCs or game consoles can be connected simultaneously via a single adapter – everywhere a power outlet is available, dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ guarantees a stable and secure Internet connection.

Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5 GHz and 500 Mbit chip for the best data rates

The dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ adapter, certified by the Wi-Fi alliance, has two integrated antennas with MIMO technology for 2.4 and 5 GHz (selectable) connections. In this way, all current WLAN standards 802.11 a/b/g/n are supported, and a stable, high-speed connection with current smartphone, tablets and laptops is ensured.

As the flagship product of the dLAN 500 product family, the adapter is equipped with a high-performance chip which enables transmission rates of up to 500 Mbps over the electrical wiring. Ten years of development experience in the Powerline segment provide high transfer rates in the new devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ (for example, for 3D/HD video content), and that even at distances of up to 300 metres. The integrated electrical socket of the dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ fulfils two functions simultaneously. First, no electrical connection is lost. Second, the integrated mains filter provides for a massive reduction of possible noise by other electrical devices and thus for an even better and more stable bandwidth.

Secure home network access and simple set-up via iOS/Android app

The dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ supports all current encryption standards, including AES and WPA2. Thus home networks and wireless connections are protected from undesired access in the best way possible. In addition, WPS enables a particularly simple and secure communication between the Wi-Fi adapter and mobile devices. The Powerline connection can be encrypted as usual at the touch of a button on the adapter and needs no additional configuration.

The adapter's configuration interface can be called up with the free-of-charge dLAN Cockpit app for iOS and Android or on a desktop or laptop computer. There, the user can set up individual access data or determine for which times the WLAN should be active and when it should be inactive. Alternatively, the WLAN function can also be switched on or off directly on the adapter.

Moreover, the dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ provides various convenience functions for the wireless network. Alongside the possibility of setting up a time-limited guest account, the daily online time quota for defined users can be limited. Once the preset usage time is reached, the adapter automatically shuts this access off until the next day. In this way, the greatest possible security and technical best performance in this way go hand-in-hand with maximum comfort for the user in the new dLAN 500 AV Wireless+.

"Mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets or laptops have long become part of our everyday life and our home – and there, they are networked with the common consumer electronics via WLAN," remarks Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG. "With dLAN Powerline, we provide the central network infrastructure of the building – and integrate wireless products right where they are used. That makes dLAN one-of-a-kind, because in this way we can ensure the highest transmission quality in every room of the home – whether cabled or wireless."

The devolo dLAN 500 AV Wireless+ arrives in stores in October 2012 in two variants. As an individual adapter, the Wireless+ costs 109.90 euros (RSP). The starter kit for the setup of a dLAN home network consists of a Wireless+ and a dLAN 500 AVplus adapter and costs 159.90 euros (RSP).
