Minutes from the FP12 LH2 Target Relief Line Meeting – DRAFT

July 13, 2004 at 10am

Lujan Center rm 301

Present: Pat Kelley, Ron Nelson, Seppo Penttila, Joshua Long, Jim Knudson

The majority of the meeting was used to define the process by which the liquid hydrogen target installations will be reviewed prior to operations in either the Shed (MPF-35) or on the floor in ER-2 FP12. The process is diagrammed in the accompanying chart. Ron Nelson will communicate this information to Alan Hurd and Kevin Jones, among others.

The main feature of the chart is the depiction of the parallel paths for the two distinct cases that are being handled here – operations in the Shed versus operations in ER-2. The actual scheduling of the reviews will be done by Seppo Penttilä, with an eye to optimizing the use of the external members of the H2 Committee by, for example, making their two reviews occur in a single visit. This committee recognizes that there is some inherent risk involved in proceeding with builds and installations before the H2 Committee’s reports are complete.

A short discussion of the use of Conflat flanges in the relief lines led to the suggestion that Penttilä should contact Mark Wiseman at Jefferson Lab. The basic question is how much pressure these flanges can take (probably not much, they are vacuum flanges after all) and if JLab has made an engineering calculation of this.

Jim Knudson will start contacting potential H2 Committee members from the list previously put together by Pat Kelley.

Next week marks the annual DOE Review of the npd experiment. This committee will therefore next meet on July 27, 2004, 10AM in the Lujan Center 3rd floor conference room.
