Olde Tyme Christmas
The 17th Annual "Olde Tyme Christmas on Frankfort Avenue" will be held this Saturday, December 8th from 9:00am to 6:00pm. The celebration will include free trolley rides from 12:00pm to 5:00pm, .50 cent horse and carriage rides from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, special retail sales, live music, holiday refreshments, and an appearance by Santa Claus himself! The schedule of the day's events is detailed in the calendar section of this eNews.
Upcoming Junk Pick Up and River Metals Incentives
The 9th District Urban Services District (USD) will have junk collection set-out on a select weekend in December or January, depending on your address. You may begin setting out your junk Friday afternoon prior to your junk pick-up week and must have it all out by Monday at 6:00 AM. For your specific junk set-out weekend please visit http://mapit.louisvilleky.gov/ and enter your address OR call the office at 574-1109. For collection guidelines please visit www.louisvilleky.gov/solidwaste.
From December 14-21, to correspond with Junk Pick Up dates, River Metals Recycling (RMR) is inviting 9th District Residents to receive higher rates for recycling scrap metal: an additional $10 per ton for ferrous scrap (appliances, sheet metal, cars) and $0.05 per pound extra for nonferrous items (cans, copper, aluminum, stainless steel). To participate, print the coupon attached to this email andbring your scrap metal to River Metals at 2045 River Road between December 14-21. Thanks to River Metals for offering this incentive and for its support of the Green Triangle. Go green with RMR and get your green! Keep metal out of the landfill by taking it to River Metals to be recycled instead of setting it out for Junk Pick Up. Find your Junk Pick Up dates on the Louisville website.

Louisville Metro Affordable Housing Trust Fund Job Opening

About the LAHTF: The Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund (LAHTF) was established by the Louisville Metro Council in 2008 to invest public funds in the kind of housing our community needs: housing for people on fixed incomes like seniors and people with serious disabilities; for young families starting out; for veterans; and for working people whose wages are not enough to live in Metro Louisville. The Housing Trust Fund is founded on the principal that a place to call home opens the door to opportunity, and that the whole community does better when everyone has a decent place to call home.
Give-A-Jam to End Homelessness
The 2nd annual "Give-A-Jam to End Homelessness" will be held on Thursday, December 20th beginning at 6:00pm at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street. The evening will showcase many of Louisville's most talented artists including John Gage, Justin Lewis, Hog Operation, Scott Carney, Andrea Davidson, Tyrone Cotton, Beady, Joan Shelley & Anna Krippenstapel, Mike Tracy & Friends, Stephen Mattingly, Will King, and several unannounced guests. The event will also feature a sumptuous array of soups and stews from local restaurants including The Irish Rover, Proof on Main, Taco Punk, and The Silver Dollar. Each of the participating restaurants and musicians are donating their time and talent, and the event will be staffed entirely by volunteers to ensure that all proceeds will go to benefit the Coalition for the Homeless. Guests can enjoy a cash bar and bid on a variety of silent auction items. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, at cliftoncenter.org, or at Carmichael's Book Store, 2720 Frankfort Avenue. Heather Hills Pre-Thanksgiving Cleanup

For many years we've asked youths to help bag leaves that several adult men blow into the street from every front yard. 2012 was very successful. Kids and adults worked for a short while in the rain on November 3 and we counted 16 4-foot-high yard waste paper bag filled; then 8 youths and 12 adults worked together on Nov. 11 to fill 71 bags. The final week, when all workers were treated to Little Caesars Pizza at noon, 7 youths were credited with 64 bags and 14 adults pitched in to fill the remainder of the total of 210 yard waste bags. The youths can earn $2.00 per filled bag and some were so diligent that one boy and one girl earned over $25 each for their two weeks of this effort. No youth is excluded; some have a parent hold the bag for them. The total number offilled were 210. And, the grounds look clean for the holidays.

Tax Preparation Volunteers Needed
My office is partnering with the Louisville Asset Building Coalition to provide FREE tax preparation services again in 2013. We are recruiting volunteers to help prepare taxes on four Fridays in February and March 2013. Full training is provided by the Louisville Asset Building Coalition on select dates in December or January. More information on tax preparation dates will be posted soon. The service is FREE if you earned $50,000 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or less in 2012 or if you quality for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

· 10:30am - Holiday Dog Walk - Participants will meet at the Crescent Hill Library Parking Lot, and then walk to The Comfy Cow for recognitions and return back to the Library.
