Define Your Target
Use this worksheet to establish a working understanding of tasks and KSAOs for a target job.
Instructions:
Step 1: Record a job description for the job on which you are focused.
· Using the O*Net website “occupation quick search,” find the job that most closely resembles the target job.
· Copy the job description in the job description box below.
· Consult with others in your organization who have firsthand knowledge of the job, and record a revised job description in the box below.

Step 2: In the Tasks table below, list all job tasks for the position.
· Copy all task descriptions for the job that are listed on the O*Net website into the table below. Add rows to the table as necessary.
· For each task you found in O*Net, use your own or other employees’ experiences to record a more accurate description in the middle column.
o If a task description is already accurate, record “none” in the middle column.
o If a task listed by O*Net doesn’t apply in your organization, make a line through it.
· In the right column, add any additional tasks that are essential in the job based on your own or other employees’ experiences

· Copy all knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job that are listed on the O*Net website into the table below. Add rows to the table as necessary.

· In the middle column, add any additional competencies that are essential in the job based on your own or other employees’ experiences. For each competency you add, use the right column to indicate whether each is a knowledge, skill, ability, or other competency.
