"Sandile Ngunuza starting his schooling in Peddie in 1985. He participated in Cross Country in school and represented the Border Schools team during that time. In 1995 he moved to Port Elizabeth and lived in Motherwell, where he completed his matric in 2000. Shortly after school, he worked part time and struggled to run due to the lack of support. In 2008 he moved to Soweto-on-Sea with his wife and two children. This is when hemet his training partner Pumzile, who motivated himto concentrate on being a full time athlete. He joined the Nedbank Running club and worked hard to prove himself as a competitive athlete. In beginning of 2009, he unknowingly had a stress fracture which resulted in a broken bone. He continued to receive support from the club and healed within 6 months, after which he ranhis personal best at the Cape Town marathon. This motivated him to concentrate on the 2010 Two Oceans Ultra. He worked hard and listened to advice given by his club chairman, Jan van Eeden. His hard worked paid off as he finished in 10th position. The highlight to him was the fact that he was indeed the first South African finisher. This performance resulted in an invitation to the IAU World 50km Trophy race in Galway, where he secured a second position.

In February 2009, Ngunuza suffered from a stress fracture that caused a break. He was treated and recovered for six months, whilst training in the gym and running/walking on his crutches to stay fit. In September 2009, he participated in the Cape Town marathon, where he recorded his personal best time and was part of the club team that won the gold team medal. In November 2009, serious training started for the Two Oceans marathon the following year.

Ngunuza participated in 17 eventsand finished in the top three positions 9 times, of which he won two races.

His best performances are:

Two Oceans Ultra Marathon – first South African to finish the event. Position 10 overall and individual gold medal.

Part of the club Gold team medal.

This performance secured an invitation to the International Association for Ultrarunners to participate in the Galway 50km World Trophy race in Ireland. Despite the short notice, he finished second in the accompanying 42.2km event in a personal best time of 2.21.07, and continued to finish second in the 50km event in a time of 2.53.05.
