ü  Approve Agenda

ü  Approve Minutes – Last SBDM meeting, Special Called-February 26, 2014

o  Minutes were read and reviewed by SBDM. Motion to approve was made by Keri DiBlasi. Second by Jennifer Everman.

ü  Approve tabled minutes from February 7, 2014

o  Tabled Minutes were read by Mr. Jerry Thatcher

o  Motion to approve minutes was made by Kathy Adkins and a second by Keri DiBlasi.

ü  Review Vision and Mission Statements

o  Vision and Mission Statements were reviewed.

VISION

·  Our school vision is our focus for today and for the future. The students, parents, and staff of Owingsville Elementary School envision:

·  • A friendly, welcoming environment which is clean, safe, and secure.

·  • A partnership where families, teachers, and the school community are actively involved in the learning process.

·  • A rich and challenging curriculum built on high standards and high expectations, with an emphasis on language development, literacy, and critical thinking skills.

·  • Successful achievement and grade level performance for all students.

·  • A learning environment that recognizes and develops each student's specific strengths and talents, and creates a lifelong love of learning.

·  • A nurturing atmosphere that promotes the development of interpersonal skills and fosters respect for self and others, demonstrated through attitude, effort, and responsible behavior.

·  • The development of a firm educational foundation that will enable all students to create and achieve dreams and goals throughout life.

MISSION STATEMENT

·  As a school community of students, families, faculty and staff, our mission is to promote enriching educational opportunities for all learners. In this community, the “whole” child will be nurtured through relevant and positive instruction to meet each child’s highest potential. The OES team will work diligently to instill a lifelong love of learning throughout our school community.

ü  First reading of Consultation on Vacancies Policy

o  Keri DiBlasi made a motion to accept the first reading of the Consultation on Vacancies Policy. Becki Thomas second. All in consensus.

14-19. Review and update Committees/Participation policy

ü  Review and discuss Policy 3.0

ü  First Reading of committee/participation policy

o  TABLED

o  Motion made by Becki Thomas. Second by Lynna Blevins.

o  All in consensus.

14-20. SBDM policy review on Principal Selection policy

ü  Review and discuss

ü  Suggestions for updates/revisions/amendments

o  SBDM will review policy and offer suggestions for this policy at the next SBDM meeting.

14-21 Student Achievement

ü  Dibels Next Reading

o  Talked about and reviewed.

14-22. Attendance

ü  Student attendance

ü  Faculty and Staff attendance

Attendance was discussed.

Attendance for students was a little above 94%.

Attendance for faculty and staff was about 92%.

14-23 Planning

ü  Review and discuss current student population numbers

o  We are up 13 students from this time last year.

ü  Review and discuss Program Reviews, second internal audit

o  Writing and Art PR look good.

o  Health is weak and in need of attention.

o  P-3 will be audited this year.

ü  Review and discuss School Improvement Plan I & I check

o  Reviewed and discussed.

ü  Discussion of School Calendar

o  End of school has been pushed to June 6th, as of now. We have missed 25 days.

o  Possibility of using the 7th or the 9th as closing days.

ü  Review School Council Allocations for 2014-15 ( Consideration for approval to enter executive session)

o  There are currently 558 students in the general population.

o  We were allocated 21.3 teachers for the next school year.

ü  Review and discuss the revision of SBDM regular monthly meetings

o  Meetings will be changed to the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

o  Discussion of having May meeting changed due to Election Day.

14-24. Other Business/Discussion

ü  Elaine Rice: Assignment of Activity Grades for 3-5th grades

Mrs. Rice, on behalf of the activity teachers, made a presentation about discontinuing grades for Activity classes in grades 3-5th grades.

o  Concern about changing protocol in the middle of the year was discussed.

o  Concern about effecting students’ grade point average was discussed.

o  This was tabled and will be discussed again after further review of the data.

ü  Discussion of the gym being closed earlier than expected due to construction of OES.
