General Summary

The Commercial Director is in a key leadership position to accomplish the following objectives:

1.  To determine all aspects of our longer term commercial strategy in Asia

2.  To implement the strategy to deliver the short term business results (both profit and volume) that will help fund the ability to invest for the long term

3.  To support the ability for the local Asia teams, Business Unit teams, and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to function as part of a worldwide company

Professional Duties

·  To act as a Manager in the best interests of the Company, its shareholders, employees, customers and suppliers, and of the communities within which the Company operates

·  To use personal, professional, and leadership skills and experience to optimize both short-term and long-term financial performance

·  To play an integral part in enabling the geographic (local) and ELT to arrive at balanced and objective decisions in the performance of the agreed role and functions

·  To ensure that the objectives as agreed by the functional VPs and ELT are fully, promptly, and properly carried out

Manager’s Obligations

·  To ensure that the objectives and policies for Michelman as a whole, in particular its objectives, mission, strategies, and goals are known and understood throughout the organization

·  Exercise personal leadership and develop a management style which encourages excellent and open relationships at all levels within the Company and enables high levels of transparency, thereby allowing our matrix organization to be highly effective

Reporting Obligations

·  To ensure that the ELT is kept fully informed, in the form and frequency required, regarding progress made in achieving the Company’s objectives and implementing the strategy

·  To recommend, on an annual basis, to the ELT and the BU leaders, an annual strategy plan for Asia

·  To ensure that the key actions to which the agreed strategy gives rise are effectively accomplished and communicated

·  To coordinate with the BU and functional leaders and recommend annual budgets and business plans as required to the ELT

·  To ensure that the ELT is kept well informed of any material variances from the agreed budget and changes in business plans

·  To ensure that the Headquarters Office is provided promptly with the information that it requires in the form and at the intervals specified by the ELT

Operational Responsibilities

·  Focus externally to identify, develop and deliver profitable sales and volume within the region

·  Ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with the legal requirements of the countries in which it operates

·  Represent Michelman as required and further its best interests and reputation in the business and financial communities

·  Demonstrate role of key advocate for Business Unit resources to ensure the migration to Business Units

·  Advocate for appropriate resources for global business unit development

·  Support the linkages of Asia business plans to business unit strategies

·  Recommend and align with the appropriate VP regarding the appointment, termination, and remuneration of employees within the region

·  Ensure the implementation of effective human resources practices throughout to include

Ø  Support in the completion of annual performance appraisals and personal development reviews for all sales resources

Ø  Support in the annual salary reviews are carried out for all sales staff, with all reviews for salaries over a specific level being referred to the Business Unit General Manager (BUGM), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the VP of Human Resources for approval

Ø  Recommend interim salary changes where appropriate, for example, in the case of promotions (referring changes over a specified level to the BUGM, CEO, and VP-HR for approval)

Ø  The establishment of annual objectives and financial incentive reward schemes in conjunction with the BUGM, VP Sales, and the VP-HR

·  Comply with the policies and procedures set out in Michelman Policy Manuals

·  Assist the CEO, BUGM’s, and the functional ELT members in public relations, investor relations, and other external relationships

·  Interact with Chinese and local government officials and organization

·  Manage a network of international agents and distributors

·  Work as a “player/coach” in the region with the Asia sales team and the Business Unit General Managers

Personal Obligations

·  Ensure compliance with all obligations and duties as a senior employee of the Company as required by law and the Company’s Code of Conduct

·  Accept such outside appointments as shall be agreed by the Board, to be compatible with the Company’s demands on his/her time, and not to be detrimental to the interests of the Company

·  Seek the advice of the CEO and/or appropriate VP if in any doubt as to whether or not a particular matter falls within his authority

·  Act as a liaison with local and regional agencies

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·  Excellent verbal, written, and listening communications skills in multiple languages (Mandarin Chinese and English required)

·  Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups

·  Able to lead a high-caliber, creative team

·  Proficient in standard business office software

·  Able to perform financial calculations and create and manage budgets

·  Ability to work in a team environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

·  Will be required to enter and work in a chemical plant environment

·  Able to wear required PPE when necessary

·  Able to travel a significant amount of time and visit a global base of customers and facilities

Qualifications

·  Minimum 10 years of sales experience with a demonstrated track record of accomplishments, sales growth in volume and revenue in the chemical industry in the Asia region (specifically China)

·  8+ years of management experience (managing people/diverse work groups)

·  Must have experience with working effectively with Management teams, Global leaders, Sales departments, and Manufacturing

·  MBA preferred; Under graduate degree required

·  Proven ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion

·  Must have a proven track record to network through business contacts to drive sales
