CLUSTER AREA REPORT FOR: Aldworth, Bishop Challoner & Brighton Hill

Key Priorities for the Basingstoke Extended Services Area:

  1. All schools are providing access to the full core offer of services by 2010
  2. More schools and partners involved in the development and delivery of extended services
  3. More children and young people are accessing positive and varied out of school activities
  4. More parents have access to information and accessing parenting support
  5. More parents and practitioners, including schools, have access to information and are using extended services activities
  6. Facilitate and encourage intergenerational activities to reduce barriers and increase community cohesion
  7. More families have access to and are engaged in further learning opportunities

30 Sept / Short Breaks development meeting (Aiming High). Those present included special school HT’s and representatives from Aiming High, Parent Voice, Esco’s. Discussion took place about extra curricular activities on offer and their further development in the Basingstoke area. It was agreed that more activities were needed in the area for the PD/SLD/MLD pupils and their families however due to the uncertainty about some people in the room being in their current job role from March onwards that support be given to planned projects and future planning be discussed at the next meeting.
Kurling equipment was collected from Kaz White to offer on long term loan to Limington House and Saxon Wood. / 1,2,3,4,5,6

5 Oct / ESCO and PSA planning meeting for engaging parents/Christmas craft days.
Outcome – A plan to work together on a project to engage parents in school involving Christmas crafts was drawn up. Primary schools to be invited to take part targeting parents who are reluctant to get involved in their child’s school. / 1, 2, 3,4,5,6,7
12 Oct / Meeting with Paul Hamilton of SummitSchool of Judo.
Outcome – following an interview and safeguarding checks a new club is to be set up on the Aldworth site. The club will start after the October half term and initially run from 3pm - 4pm as a pilot until Christmas. The club will be opened up to the other cluster schools once established. / 1,2,3
18 Oct / Kurling development meeting with Peter Hull, County Development Officer (Disability Sport), Damian Scurr, SSCo and Greg Knight *******
Outcome – Following the loss of 2 coaches at the Friday club at the end of July it was agreed to look into involving young sports leaders with the project and seeking other support within the schools such as LSA’s and staff volunteers. The ASC sports hall was no longer available due to a new table tennis club which started in September. The gym is currently being used but this does not have enough room for the expansion of the club. Another venue in one of the cluster schools is to be sought and funding through ‘Aiming High’ is to be sought. / 1,2,3,5,6

20 Oct / Meeting with Melissa Juniper – Play Strategy Coordinator for HCC.
Outcome – following discussion about the planned ‘Outdoor Week’ starting 7th March 2011 and the funding available to engage more pupils in outdoor activities it was agreed that I should contact PVJ and PVI to see if they would like to be involved in any way. Meeting to be set up after half term. / 2,3,6
21 Oct / Visited the SSCo. atFort Hill school to view dance mats in action at their year 7 family activities evening. This was in preparation for the submission of a capacity bid for mats to be used across the cluster. / 1,2,3,6
22 Oct / Meeting at Park View Infants with Liz Doyle (PSA) and Linda Greatorex to confirm details of the engaging parents craft day scheduled for Friday 3rd November. Following meeting PSA’s and I worked on preparing some of the materials for the planned days. / 2,4,5,6,7
1 Nov / Meeting at St Marks with Nicky Ford (Senco) and Rachael Thomas (PSA) to confirm details of the engaging parents craft day scheduled for Friday 26th November. / 2,4,5,6,7
2 Nov / Meeting at St Annes with Jakki Alexander (HT) and PSA to confirm details of the engaging parents craft day scheduled for Monday 29th November. Further discussion relating to BEAT and capacity funding took place and follow up meeting arranged with Senco.

4th Nov / Meeting at Park View Juniors with Judy Ashley and PSA to confirm details of the engaging parents craft day scheduled for Wednesday 1st December.
Launch of the new Judo club at ASC. Following extensive promotion within the school only 4 turned up. 2 of the pupils fit the BEAT criteria and will be able to take part with this funding. The club will look at opening out to the cluster from January onwards if there is demand. / 2,4,5,6,7

10 Nov / All day ESCO forum and update from county on LCP’s and pupil premium, other updates included intergenerational work that had taken place, presentations from the ACE Project relating to safety DVDs that had been produced and external funding update. / 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
