President’s Annual Report Oct 2006.

I believe that the Central zone of Pony clubs has had a successful year all round.

During the year the we have run several successful events including the Lowden Shield and the Fimister and Presidents cup.

We have participated in the Werribee Interzone Horse Trials and Dressage day and we have run a successful Zone Games and Flat Teams day and a Show jumping and Dressage day.

There have also been several Riders schools and Instructors schools in the Zone including an NCAS Orientation school about which I am sure Wendy Abey will elaborate at the AGM..

Many of our Central Zone clubs have run very good and various events giving our riders many opportunities to experience competing in different disciplines.

Norm Glenn has encouraged more showjumping in the Zone and has been excellent at promoting events such as the Lowden Shield which has resulted in many more entries than usual this year.

The Zone Executive is planning currently to arrange for clubs to receive instruction in Gear checking. This is a PCAV initiative with a new Gear checking booklet due to be published in the near future. The end result hopefully will be that we will have competent gear checkers at club level and a list of volunteer trained gear checkers from which clubs and Zone can call upon to gear check at all events.

Now that it has been agreed by the Zone that all working zone personal receive a traveling allowance of 40c per km, no voluntary worker will be out of pocket and so this should be an incentive for more help around the Zone.

I would just like to reiterate for the benefit of all new club reps that the Zone Executive or the Zone Rep is always willing to handle any complaints from clubs in the best way possible. Critical letters regarding Zone personnel with the purpose of humiliating them however will not be read out at Zone meetings.

When I agreed to take on the position of Zone President it was a bit of a surprise and I

feel I did not introduce myself to you properly and so for the benefit of new club delegates and for those who do not really know me, I would like to give you a brief résumé of my Pony club history.

I have ridden all my life starting as a founder Pony club member in Zimbabwe, continuing in England and now Australia. I have had four children all who went through Pony club.

I hope that during the previous 12 months I have been able to bring to Central Zone some benefits arising from my past experiences and useful ideas gained from working for Pony club for many years in the East Gippsland Zone. It was there that I served at Zone level as Secretary, Examining Secretary and Chief Instructor.

I also I worked as a DCI, pony club judge to all levels, examiner to B level. Pony club instructor at all levels including the NCAS level 1 and as a NCAS Presenter.

At club level I started two Pony clubs and served in all Executive positions frequently except for Treasurer.

Being Zone President for the first time however has been a whole new learning experience for me. Norm Glenn and Barb Richards have been a huge help and for this I thank them very much and I have enjoyed working for this Zone for the past year.

I would now like to express my thanks to the Zone Executive for all the work done behind the scenes. They are Norm Glenn our Zone Rep, Barb Richards our Secretary, Liz Turner our Treasurer and Deidre Krausgrill our Vice President. Thank you to also Janice Ray who has done so much for the Zone especially with scoring for various events, but has now retired as Vice President to concentrate her work as State Treasurer.

Sue Hollins has been a wonderful Event secretary and so I thank her very much for her dedicated work along with all those who have helped her with events.

I also thank Karen Butler for her zone input regarding exams, Wendy Abey and those who have assisted her from the DCI/ZA panel and to all the various people who have helped within the Zone to make our schools, events and competitions so successful.

Finally, I would like to add on a personal basis and I am sure that I speak for the whole Zone as well, that in all my 30 years of Pony club experience, I have never come across a Zone Rep and Zone Secretary who display such knowledge, dedication, diplomacy, efficiency and enthusiasm as Norm Glenn and Barbara Richards, and I thank them both most sincerely.

If we can all continue working well together, with enthusiasm and willing help from our official Pony club personnel and parents, next year will be even more successful than the present one has been.

SECRETARY=S REPORT TO ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Tuesday 3rd October 2006

My role as Secretary has been once again a busy but rewarding one. The continual feedback and questions from new club executive is very encouraging. There seems to be a real interest in clubs to be a valuable information source for members.

There have been many changes to Rules of Incorporation, for 2006.

These have now all been completed and accepted for implementation, from 11th August 2006.

The Zone Web Site and email contacts have once again proven to be a fast reliable source for information distribution.

Data base information is uploaded at regular intervals and I would like to thank clubs who notify me of any changes promptly.

An accurate database is the only useful one!

I would like to thank all the clubs who have hosted or assisted with the many zone events. The work that is involved in these is often quite arduous and one hopes at least rewarding for the clubs and competitors.

No doubt the following year will continue in the “Busy Mode”.

There is always that next event!

The ‘Junior Committee’ has still not had any interest shown, so will continue to be in recess.

Please do not hesitate to call me if there is a renewed interest.

Each year my report seems to follow along on the same theme -COMMUNICATION!

The only way for Clubs, Zone and PCAV to have members fully understand not only the rules but their obligations, as a member is through constant communication.

I have enjoyed contact with clubs through Zone, and am extremely appreciative of the Club Secretaries and the Club Delegates, who have assisted me in passing on the multitude of information, I seem to be bombarding them with . I have a very strong conviction that ALL information received at Zone Level should be passed on to clubs , and members , at the earliest possible time frame.

Communication from Zone to clubs and vice - versa is a very important part of the smooth operation of events etc. each year. The inclusion of the email notification, I believe, has enabled Zone to have the ability to communicate with clubs far more quickly & efficiently than in previous years.

Congratulations to the Award of Merit recipients for 2006. Zone is very fortunate each year to have such an enthusiastic group of Associates who give so much to their club and fellow members. It is very pleasing to see that pony club is still a very prominent youth movement.

My role can only be a successful one with the support of the Executive, I would like to take this opportunity to thank, Jenny Walker, for her work and support as Zone President.

Norm Glenn for all the work he does as Zone Rep and also for the constant support I receive re computer issues. I would also like to thank Janice Ray as Vice President and a wealth of information . Janice will be missed at Central Zone, we wish her well and hope to continue to maintain her service as the Photocopier extraordinaire.

Deidre Krausgrill Vice President has also been busy and of great assistance at zone events .

I look forward to this continuing in 2007.

To Liz Turner as the Zone Treasurer and extremely arduous task. Wendy Abey , ZCI for the work with Instructors ,DCI’s/ZA’s , clubs and gaining judges for the zone events..

Karen Butler- ZES, with the Certificate Work and Sue Hollins for her role as the Zone Events Coordinator. This role has been invaluable to making life easier for the Zone Secretary

Your assistance has been greatly appreciated.

To the many others not listed individually.

THANKYOU!

Barbara Richards

Hon. Zone Secretary

Central Zone AGM – Zone Representatives Report

Zone Executive - Central Zone has been through another successful year. Some Zone Executive positions changed, Jenny Walker as our new President who took over from myself and Liz Turner who took up the Treasurers position after the mid-year retirement of Peter Rodaughan.

Competitions – There was another very full year of club events with very good attendance. Many of the cross-country courses in the zone were improved to enhance the safety and standards and Gisborne finally being able to host their first horse trials after construction over a few years. Central Zone introduced a new perpetual zone showjumping competition called The Presidents Cup. Only one rider was awarded per grade, after competing in a series of events in the zone throughout the year. The 2005 winners were PA - Liam Hartz of Glenlyon, PC - Michelle Hartz of Glenlyon, PD - Teegan Burke of Macedon and PE – Brittany Holub of Williamstown. Unfortunately there was no final qualifier for PB grade but we are hopeful for the 2006 year.

We were well represented at State events. For the Grade 1 Dressage Championship Stephanie Barrelll from Glenlyon was the State Champion and Chantel Amiss from Riddells Creek was placed 4th. In the Showjumping Ellie Kennett of Macedon was placed 4th. Our Grade 2 Dressage Team placed 2nd and PB Showjumping team placed 6th, PC was 4th. In the State Horse Trials Jessica Regan of Oakland’s placed 6th, Grade 2 Ashleigh Oliver from Riddells Creek placed 3rd. At the State Flat Teams event Riddells Creek placed 4th. In the Musical Ride Teams Gisborne placed 6th and in the State Games Macedon placed 2nd and Riddells Creek 5th.

Award of Merit – Central Zone nominated the following worthy members for the Award of Merit: Ashleigh Leiper of Broadford Pony Club and Kathryn Sheppard-Irwin of Melton Pony Club, which sadly was a posthumous award. Central Zone congratulates Ashleigh and remembers Kathryn with thanks for their support and endeavours within their respective clubs and the zone.

Clinics, Examinations and Inspections – There has been a concerted effort to increase the club inspections this past year with great success and next year will see a further step up in this activity. Clinics organised by the ZCI Wendy Abey and the DCI’s have once again been a strong feature of the year and we look forward to a continued focus in this area. C certificate examinations and successful obtainment have been aplenty over the past few years and this year has been no exception.

Club and Zone Support – I would like to thank all of the club members, club officers, zone delegates and Central Zone officers for their continued support. The level of cooperation and goodwill is outstanding.

Norm Glenn, Central Zone Representative
