Monday March 26th, 2007

Meeting called to order by Frank Prowant at 1830. Altoona was thanked for providing the site as well as the meal.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the January meeting were approved as written.

Treasurer’s Report: No report

Guest Speakers: Sam Patterson was represented from the CommunityTrainingCenter at Mercy. Stated he has ACLS programs available for $75 for renewals and $150 for provider classes. Books may be checked out from Emergency Management through Steve Noland at 286-2107 and must be returned or the department will be billed for the books. Sam also offers BCLS and PALS. For class information, Sam may be contacted directly at 643-7488.

Education Committee – Meeting monthly. This group is interested in facilitating a process to create core programs to meet the greatest need, including ACLS, PEPP renewal, PHTLS and offering an NAEMT refresher 2x/ year. Next education committee meeting 4/18 at 1300 at the Ankeny Fire Department.

Metro Trauma – Reylon reported Metro trauma is again requesting trauma alerts not be requested. The hospitals will call them given the report provided by EMS personnel.

Metro ED – Diversion policy from the VA was provided to all attendees.

MMRS – 2005 grant period has been closed. Purchases of a generator for Grandview and the EOC were the outcomes.

Member Counties:

Jasper – Met with all EMS directors in February. Assistance to Firefighter Grant was obtained and a toughbook and software were purchased for all ambulances in the county. Newton – will be offering a test this fall for full time firefighters.

Madison – In the process of looking at changing all protocols for MadisonCounty.

Polk – MCI – there will be a drill on 4/17 at CampDodge.

PolkCounty Fire Chiefs – Reylon reported Polk County Dispatch will be changing all EMS requests to Teams cards to make it easier for dispatchers. These will also include NIMS terminology for consistency. Should be a seamless system for EMS.

Old Business:

  • NDMS Exercise – Matt Klein reported the tentative dates are 7/12 or 7/19-21. It will be dependent upon when the C130 arrives from Minnesota and is available.
  • There will be a tabletop exercise at the VA on 6/15 from 1300-1600, and will include the NDMS and DMAT teams.

New Business:

  • CIEMSD (Yahoo Groups) – Check your spam files to make sure you are receiving the e-mails from this group.
  • Arterial lines – the state is going to be questioned as to whether paramedics can monitor arterial lines in transit.

Announcements./ Other matters

Upcoming Training

  • Grinnell will be offering an ACLS class this weekend.
  • Altoona will be offering an EMT-B class this fall.
  • Pleasant Hill will be offering a paramedic bridge class

Hirings:

  • Ankeny has a chief’s position open, as well as paid on call positions.
  • Altoona is hiring a full time captain’s position for EMS
  • Urbandale is hiring 2-5 paramedics/ firefighters
  • WindsorHeights will be hiring 5-6 part time personnel as they are going to be staffing the station 10 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Recognitions

  • WindsorHeights will be housing their new fire truck Monday April 2nd at 1800-2000 hours.
