  1. Call to Order

Legislative Vice-President Partika called the meeting to order at 7:05PM in the Schneider Multipurpose Room.

Also Present – August Airsman, President Wilson, Vice-President Stith, Legislative Vice-President Partika, Legislative Clerk Sattler, Parliamentarian Yates, Melvin Adams and Professor Daniel Skinner

Senator Brennan of the First General Assembly led the Senate in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance

  1. Devotion

Senator Boyd, member of the First General Assembly, presented the devotion.

  1. Public Comment

August Airsman, student at Capital, presented the idea of Capital University developing a mobile app for students that would be available on Droid and iOS operating systems.

  1. Approval of Minutes

Minutes from the September 4, 2012 meeting were amended.

  1. Committee Reports

Academic Affairs: Senator Sharrat discussed upcoming goals for the committee, such as students studying abroad.

Governance: Senator Smith, P discussed bi-weekly committee meetings about issues pertaining to campus.

Student Life: Senator Boyd said the committee is working on having whiteboards added to a number of classrooms around campus.

Student Activities: Senator Morris discussed the committee is working on target initiatives.

Other: Vice-President Stith discussed Preliminary Allocations and said the Allocation committee reviewed all submitted requests.

Cabinet: President Wilson read a letter of resignation from Senator Emily Turner, senior class representative. There are currently two open positions for senior representative and one for junior representative.

  1. Senate Announcements

Senator Taylor – Announced an idea in the direction of Academic Affairs regarding students studying abroad possibly obtaining credit towards their language requirements.

Senator Smith, P – Discussed some winter intramural sports being taken away.

Legislative Vice-President Partika – Announced details about President Bowman’s “Debo Challenge”

  1. Vice-President Remarks – Mitchell Stith

Announced help was needed by senators for first-year elections on September 19, 2012.

  1. Communications Vice-President Remarks – Travis Dilley

Thanked Senators for helping with first-year elections

Discussed survey that was emailed to a select few senators

Announced to Senate that ZenCha Tea Café on Main Street in Bexley expressed interest in allowing Capital students to use meal swipes there.

  1. Financial Vice-President Remarks – Pat Donahue

Announced that allocations are going well.

All applications were due by September 20, 2012.

XIII. Legislative Vice-President Remarks – Scott Partika

Announced that the Retreat for Senators was originally planned for October 7, 2012 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. That is subject to change.

The Public Safety Committee was dissolved, however, the Governance Committee will take over the duties.

Reminded Senators to follow up on all bills.

Committee updates were needed for previous weeks by all committees.

  1. President Remarks – Bobbi Wilson

Senators were needed to help with voting registration on September 19, 2012.

The Foundations of Excellence was explained to Senators and opportunities were opened up for senators to become involved.

Vice President Stith and President Wilson had a meeting with President Bowman and Dr. Ashbrook in the previous week.

Information was given about possibly bringing a concert to Capital in the future.

President Wilson spoke on September 14, 2012 on behalf of Student Government during the opening of renovated Blackmore Library.

A President’s Council meeting was held.

Announced that there was a Cabinet meeting after Senate.

President Wilson opened the floor to discussion and feedback from Senate regarding Blackmore Library renovations.

President Wilson also opened the floor to discussion and feedback regarding food services at Capital.
