ARS Macro setup instructions

Creating a macro for HelpDesk case requests:

Open ARS

Go to homepage (Alt-Home) which should be set to Remedy Support (Tools/Options/Home Page/Form Name = Remedy Support).

This will set the homepage to the IT Service Management Console.

Macros are stored on the preference server, but they must be downloaded locally in order to run (this happens automatically). To keep macros for individuals separate on individual computers, reset the default macros folder. Go to Tools/Options/General Search path: C:\Program Files\AR System\home\arcmds\username. If there is no folder with your username, you will need to create one.

To create a macro for a new HelpDesk request:

  1. turn on macro recording (Tools/Record Macro (Ctrl+R))
  2. open a new request form and

Click on New Request fill in the default settings for a call. Fill in the details for a call type. For example:

Note: if the macro is going to be used by the rest of the staff group, remove the username from the ‘Submitted by’ field.

Save the macro but don’t save the case (Tools/Save Macro) .

Give it a name using the Summary field as a guideline e.g. BlackBoard: add/modify/remove

Click on Save in the Save Macro dialogue box and close the ARS window without saving the case.

To run the macro go to Tools/ Run Macro (Ctrl- I)

Select a macro from the drop down box and click ok(alternatively press Tab twice and type the first letter of the macro you want to select. This will jump you down the macro selection box on the toolbar).

This will open a new call window with the default details. Complete the call byentering and caller details and descriptions needed. Confirm the details are correct and if necessary amend. Finally click Save.

Deleting macros:

Go to Tool/Manage/ Macros

Select the macro you want to remove and press delete.

This will delete the macro from both the local machine as well as the preference server.

This process might need to be repeated on different computers that have a locally stored user profile in the folders(C:\Program Files\AR System\home\arcmds\username).
