Purpose of Post:

To ensure that the toilets at the UPSU are kept in a clean and tidy state throughout the very busy weekend club nights on Fridays and Saturdays

Duties and Responsibilities:

At the beginning of each shift and just before customers enter the building, both male and female toilets will need to be checked as follows:

  • Ensuring all soap and toilet paper dispensers are in working order and are filled with supplies;
  • Checking cubicle to ensure that all toilets are in working order;
  • Checking that all mirrors, shelving and floors are clean and clear of any debris.

During each shift in the all toilets:

  • Being in attendance in the female toilets throughout the shift excluding breaks and the one check of the male toilets*;
  • Ensuring all soap and toilet paper dispensers are continuously refilled;
  • Keeping basins and toilets clear of any rubbish, turning off taps etc... to ensure there is no flooding;
  • Keeping the floor, shelves and cubicles clear of all rubbish and debris. Where necessary to clean the toilets, basin and floor with necessary cleaning materials;
  • Unblocking toilets and where necessary to close cubicles with “Out of Order” signs;
  • Notifying the Duty Manager of any issues of concern e.g.: customers in need of first aid, etc...

At the end of each shift, in both the all toilets:

  • Ensuring all soap and toilet paper dispensers are in working order and are refilled for the following day;
  • Turning off any taps, clearing and cleaning all basins;
  • Sweeping all floors inside and outside cubicles and removing all rubbish and debris; and mop through.
  • Returning all cleaning equipment and materials to the Cleaners Cupboards;
  • Notifying the Duty Manager of any blocked toilets, basins or other items in need of attention the following day.

Health & Safety

  • You should make yourself familiar with our Health and Safety Policy and your own health and safety duties and responsibilities, as in the Health and Safety Policy;
  • You must not take any action that could threaten the health or safety of yourself, other employees, customers or members of the public;
  • Protective clothing and other equipment which may be issued for your protection because of the nature of your job must be worn and used at all appropriate times. Failure to do so could be a contravention of your health and safety responsibilities. Once issued, this protective wear/equipment is your responsibility;
  • You should report all accidents and injuries at work, no matter how minor, in the accident book;

Position in the Organisation

This post will report to the Facilities Manager/Supervisor and will be supervised by the Duty Manager on each shift.

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be reviewed from time to time and the Cleaner may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required and at the discretion of the Facilities Manager/Supervisor.

Qualifications

/ Must be a current Plymouth University Student
Experience / Cleaning experience in a similar environment
Knowledge / Understanding of COSHH although training will be given
