This document serves to provide background and motivation for a request for assistance towards development of sport in the area of Nyanga

The people who were forcefully removed from different places of abode, e.g. Simonstown, Retreat and Kensigton were relocated in Nyanga. In order for them to stay united as they were previously, they decided to establish a uniting force that is Nyanga Soccer Association in 1966. George Futhi Makhanya was elected as the first president of the Association. There are 24 affiliated clubs and each club is comprised of a senior team and 4 youth (junior) divisions. LFA caters for 1,052 juniors and 462 senior players. Nyanga community is grappling with issues of crime, under – age drinking and drug dependency. The existence of the Nyanga LFA, in the area of Nyanga ensures that young people are kept away from the streets. The overall goal is to develop young people’s life skills in order to have a positive outlook in life.

The membership of the Association comprises young school going people. This therefore means that there are no resources to manage the Nyanga LFA, much less to carry the vision forward. Most activities are paid for by the Executive members and clubs who can afford to do so.

Mission:

To nurture, develop and promote the talent of young footballers within Nyanga and its surroundings namely Black City, Lusaka, KTC and Barcelona and to fight crime through sport.

Aim and Objectives:

To formulate, control, add to and/or amend the conditions under which all competitions shall be conducted where not inconsistent with the roles and regulations laid down by SAFA-CT.

To select, control, regulate, and if necessary, finance representative teams to participate in Inter LFA, Provincial and National competitions throughout South Africa.

To award such trophies as are offered and accepted by the Association for competitions, and to provide for the proper custody, insurance, protection and distribution of same.

Engage and empower our Youth to participate in community development activities.

Structure of the LFA:

Management: President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, PRO, 3 Additional members.

Sub-Committees: Youth, Referees, Coaching, DC, Women,

Management is to oversee the smooth running of the organisation; all structures shall account to the management a meeting level. The continual process of guiding the functions of the organisations shall be conducted through workshops.

Challenges: Nyanga LFA used to have 33 affiliated clubs;currently we have 23 and 1women team. The socio economic conditions contributed to a decline in numbers: unemployment, poverty, drug abuse and crime. The afore mentioned factors led to

  • Clubs being unable to pay affiliation fee of R1, 000annually.
  • Unable to do registration cards e.g. junior card R10.00 senior R30.00 and renewed annually.
  • Travelling costs for playing SAFA Cape Town activities.
  • LFA Management office equipment and running cost of daily activities.
  • Capacity building/Skills development

In 2012 was one of the best years in the LFA history, we are proud of.

Management

The Nyanga Local Football Association is managed by committed members from the community doing for the love of the sport. Proper management system will be put in place to ensure effective management of the Nyanga LFA activities.

Conclusion:

Commitment and dedication has put the organisation where it is today, working on restricted budget and resources. We need to take a step further, for this to happen proper any type of assistance is needed to allow the LFA to develop to its full potential.
