AFA TEENS FOR ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: 1200-1500 word essay on “How has Alzheimer’s disease changed or impacted your life”, and “What have you learned about yourself, your family, and/or your community in the face of coping with Alzheimer’s disease?”

ALLEGACY FEDERAL CREDIT UNION – MEL HUGHES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Selection Criteria: For student members of Allegacy Federal Credit Union. (Can apply for membership with scholarship application.) Judged on academic performance (GPA >= 3.0), extracurricular and community activities, references and an essay question. You can request your financial need to be considered as a factor also. If you apply for, but are not selected to receive a Mel Hughes Scholarship, your application may be submitted for consideration of a General Fund Scholarship.

AUBREY LEE BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP

UNC-CHAPEL HILL, UNC-GREENSBORO, NC STATE

Selection Criteria:Local Scholarship: Selection is on the basis of academic merit, leadership, character, and the will of the recipient to help himself or herself prepare for a career as a useful and informed citizen. Can be used at UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro or NC State. You must gain admission to college attending before the final scholarship selection in April.

Amount:One half cost of education, maximum for 2012-13 year was $11,100, Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Financial need is determined by the Brooks Foundation based on the information submitted on the FAFSA form. May also receive funding for summer internships, research or study abroad and a one-time computer allowance up to $2,500

Deadline:The Brooks Scholarship no longer requires the Profile form; financial needs will be assessed based on the student’s 2013-2014 FAFSA ( ). The 2013-14 FAFSA cannot be accessed until January 1st 2013 and it must be submitted by January 31st. The Brooks Application deadline is January 31st.

Selection Criteria: You must demonstrate ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; and ability to succeed in college.

RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Selection Criteria: For highly motivated African-American students for use at any 4-year college. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.

Amount: $10,000, renewable for four yearsDeadline: January 9, 2013

BURGER KING SCHOLARS

Selection Criteria: Student must have GPA>=2.5, school and community activities. Plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college. Recipients are selected based on their GPA, work experience, extracurricular activities and /or community service.

Amount: $1000 - $50,000Deadline: Application data must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific) by January 10, 2013. If 50,000 applications are received prior to January 10, the application will no longer be available.

COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Please check with the college/university you are interested in attending to get information about any scholarships

they offer, procedures for application, and deadlines you need to meet. You also want to find out admission application deadlines (some colleges have an application deadline that must be met in order to be considered for merit scholarships), FASFA information, and whether there are any other requirements (for example the CSS/Financial Aid Profile).

CSS/FINANCIAL AID PROFILE

Certain Colleges require the PROFILE to be filed along with the FAFSA. Some of the North Carolina schools that required it for 2012-2013 included Davidson College, Duke University, Elon University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, NC A&T University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University. There are also specific scholarships that require the PROFILE. Registrations for the PROFILE are accepted beginning October 1. Application can be found at . The PROFILE must be submitted online.

FAFSA DAY

FAFSA Day is Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 9:00-12 noon(times and locations vary, please check the website).This a free service provided by College Foundation of North Carolina Association of Student Aid Administrators, and the State Employee’s Credit Union. FAFSA Day will have financial specialists and college aid professionals to complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically.

FAFSA ON THE WEB

Selection Criteria: Anyone interested in financial aid for college should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at . Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible after January 1, 2013. You may print out a pre-application worksheet for Web filers from the website. You and your parent can also prepare by each applying for a US Department of Education PIN at Your PIN enables you to sign your FAFSA electronically. There is also information about federal student aid on this site. If you don’t want to file online, you can download a form from the website or request a paper copy 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). (Warning! This is a free application. Please be sure you go to the official government site.)

FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP – WS/FCS

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will hold a Financial Aid workshop for parents of seniors on January 3rd and January 10 at the CentralOfficeEducationCenter located at 4801 Bethania Station Rd, Winston-Salem, NC27105. You can attend either session for information on the financial aid process. January 15th is a snow date.

FLORENCE KIDDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria:Local and Statewide Scholarship – Essay (35%), scholastic record (35%), character (25%), financial need (5%), letter of recommendation. For attendance at a college in North Carolina.

Amount: $200 for 2 local finalists; $3,000 for winner/$1,000 for runner up at state level

GATES MILLENNUIM SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Selection Criteria:For African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American students who are a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the US. Must have an unweighted GPA >=3.3, leadership demonstrated through activities, and meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

HISPANIC LEAGUE OF THE PIEDMONT TRIAD

Selection Criteria:Local Scholarship -Must be a past or present ForsythCountyESL student of Hispanic/Latino origin and a current NC resident. (Preference will given to ForsythCounty residents.) Academic achievement and financial need are considerations for these scholarships.

Selection Criteria:This scholarship was established for African-American males who areForsythCounty residents with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Requirements include two letters of recommendations, and an essay.

JAGANNATHAN SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria:Student must be planning to enroll as college freshman in a full time degree program at one of the constituent institutions of UNC, and have demonstrated academic achievement as indicated by class rank, GPA,

and SAT scores, leadership and financial need. Special consideration is given to students whose parents are employees of TIEPET, Universal Fibers and related companies.

LEWISVILLE CIVIC CLUB STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD

MERDITHCOLLEGE TEACHING FELLOWS PROGRAM

Selection Criteria: The Meredith College Teaching fellows will benefit from enrichment opportunities including seminars, attendance at cultural events, a sophomore trip, a two-year placement beginning their junior year with a mentor teacher in Wake County Public Schools, and an opportunity to study abroad.

NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Selection Criteria:For students planning to participate in college cooperative education at a University participating in their program: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology. Unweighted GPA>=3.5.

NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: For seniors who have MS or who have a parent who has MS. Selection criteria include demonstrated financial need, academic record, leadership and participation in school or community activities, work experience, an outside appraisal, goals and aspirations, special circumstances, and an essay regarding the impact of MS on their life.

NORTH CAROLINA HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND

Selection Criteria:Students who are of Hispanic/Latino background can find information about scholarships and financial questions for 2- and 4- year schools. Preference will be given to foreign-born applicants or the native born children of foreign-born parents. Recipients will be chosen based on: family economic need, community involvement, academic achievement, volunteerism and leadership.

JANICE M. SCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Selection Criteria:Student must have GPA of 3.0/equivalent or higher, and will attend a full-time four-year accredited college or university. Letters of recommendation and essay along with other important documents are required. The process of the scholarship packets is based primarily on a “need” basis, academics, community service and writing skill.

Amount: Three to Five $2,500 scholarships

SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS - 2012 ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS

Selection Criteria: Intend to earn degree in engineering or a related science (math, chemistry, physics, biology, technologies, computer science, etc) Some scholarships are for any college, some are for participating schools, meet minimum SAT and GPA for individual scholarships.

TEACHER CADET and FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA (FTA) SCHOLARSHIPS

Selection Criteria: 2 scholarships: NC Teacher Cadet Scholarships - complete the NC Teacher Cadet Program by the end of senior year and attend North Carolina college or university. FTA-NCAE Scholarship - Active member in good standing with a local FTA organization, attend in-or out-of-state college or university.

UNC-CHAPEL HILL – MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS AND CAROLINA COVENANT

Selection Criteria: All applicants will automatically be considered for University sponsored academic scholarships. (For fullest consideration apply by January 5.) Students who apply for financial aid by March 1 are automatically considered for the Carolina Covenant. Students with a family income at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level can attend Carolina without borrowing a penny if they work 10 to 12 hours a week in a federal work-study job.

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON-LEADERSHIP OF SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: Senior who has an innate desire for personal development and is committed to service within his or her school, church or community. In order to receive this scholarship, the selected student must apply and be accepted to the University of Dayton. The regular decision date is March 1.

Amount: $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years)

UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI-RONALD A. HAMMOND SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria:Senior must have taken the SAT I or ACT no later than November 2012, with a minimum score 1250 (only math and critical reading); and minimum ACT score of 28. He/She must challenge themselves and excelled academically and community service experience. Their presence will enhance the learning environment through increased cultural diversity.
