Q I. Read the following passage and answer the questions.

The Golden Mango

Once a king was riding through his kingdom. In a small village, he saw an old woman working in a field. She looked weak. But she was planting some saplings. The king was eager to know why she was doing that. He rode upto her and asked, “What are you doing, grandma?”

“I am planting mango saplings, my lord,” she replied.

“Don’t you know mango trees take a long time to grow? You may not live to eat the fruit. Then why are you doing this?”

“I know that, my lord. But I do not plant these saplings for myself. I plant them for others. I am sure many people will enjoy the fruit of this tree. Tired travelers will rest under its great branches.”

“You are very kind and thoughtful, grandma. I wish there were more people like you.” said the king.

He put his hands inside his robes and took out a small golden mango. “This is your first fruit, grandma,” said the king, giving to her.

Like the old woman, there are many kind people all over the world. They always reach out to people in need. They are warm, good and tender. The love and care we have for everyone

It was a hot day. A little ant was very thirsty. She found a big river and went to drink cool water from it. The little ant slipped and fell into the river. A dove was sitting on the tree. She heard a cry for help. She saw the ant in the river. The dove flew to a tree and brought a big, green leaf. She dropped the leaf into the water. The ant climbed on the big, green leaf. The leaf floated to the bank of the river and the ant was saved.

Many months later, the ant saw a hunter taking aim with his bow to kill the dove. The ant remembered the kindness of the dove. So she climbed on to the hunter’s foot and bit him hard. ‘Ouch!’ the hunter cried and dropped his bow. The dove heard the hunter’s cry and flew away.
