Programme outline

Miss Davis asks her class to do an oral presentation on the topic “When I Grow Up”. At first,Agnes cannot think of anything to say on this topic. With the teacher’shelp and tips on organising ideas, Agnes delivers a good presentation. Her classmates Samuel and Joshua also have their big dreams to share. In preparing the content of their joint presentation, they go on the Internet to look for information, discuss ways to make their presentation moreinteresting, practise the script and use cue cards to remind themselves of thekey points. What are their dreams and wishes?

Suggested activities

1. Introduce the programme and the main characters: Agnes, Samuel and Joshua.

2. Ask pupils what they want to be when they grow up. Brainstorm ideas.

3. Guide pupils in finding specific things they can talk about under this topic. Teachers can show pupils the mind map in COPYMASTER 1 as an example.

4. To let pupils know how to build the body of a presentation, print out the worksheet in COPYMASTER 2 for them before showing the programme.

5. While watching the programme, draw pupils’ attention to the ways in which Agnes, Samuel and Joshua come up with their ideas and finally succeed in presenting them in class.

6. After watching the programme, teachersread the script of Joshua’s presentation in COPYMASTER 3 with pupils.After that, explain to themthe importance of jotting downkey words on cue cards by using the example in COPYMASTER 3.Encouragepupils to select topics they are interested in and do oral presentations on them.
