Name(s) ______

How can you help Australia’s economy?

Background:

You are an entrepreneur living in Australia. You make your living exporting your goods to other countries. Your job is to set up a new business using a natural resource(s) found in the country, but you want to make sure you are also protecting the environment so as not to take away from the Aboriginal culture. Points to consider:

ü  Your item needs to be marketable to your peer group/age range.

ü  You need to choose an item that is a reasonable option that you could accomplish….designing and building a rocket is not realistic J.

ü  You need to be able to sell your item in other countries, as well as at home in Australia, to increase trade and help the economy.

ü  Have your product approved by your teacher before proceeding.

ü  Since you are just starting your business, you will really need to pitch your idea, so make sure you believe in it!

Points:

Ø  Why is this resource(s) vital to the success of your business?

Ø  What are your plans to protect the environment?

Ø  How will you affect Australia’s GDP?

Ø  What countries do you believe you will trade with once your business is off the ground?

Ø  Who is your target market?

Ø  What Australian cities would be on your trade route within the country?

Ø  What potential barriers (problems) to the success of your business that you will need to overcome?

Company Information:

Ø  What is the name of your business and what do you produce?

Ø  Where in Australia is your company located? Why did you choose this location?

Ø  Why is location important in terms of human capital?

Ø  What are your capital goods?

Project Information:

Ø  You have the option to work alone or in a group of up to 3 students.

Ø  This will count as a quiz grade.

Ø  Project options:

·  Written essay – If you do not like presentations in front of the group this might be the option for you.

·  Infomercial – You must have a typed script that includes all the information from the project. You may include pictures to show to make some of your points. These should be turned in with the script.

·  Tri-fold board/poster board display – if you are artistically inclined…

·  PowerPoint presentation – Computers are very limited. You may bring your own computers for this option. Your program must be compatible with the school and you must put your presentation on a stick drive.

Ø  Complete the data outline with your ideas. This will count as a separate homework grade.

Ø  You will complete a budget sheet to turn in with your project.

Think about it:

Ø  Using maps is a good way to make a point…..show your trade routes/partners.

Ø  When gathering pictures, remember we don’t print in color at school. One of your group members might be assigned this task.

Ø  Some of the project bullets can be combined. Each point does not need to be a separate answer in the presentation.

Ø  Check off on your data organizer when you have used your facts so you know what has been covered.

Ø  If you are making the PowerPoint you must have a stick drive to save the information

Ø  If you are writing the essay, remember:

o  You need an intro paragraph to introduce your topic/point of view.

o  Your body paragraphs should address the bullets outlined in the project. You will need 2-3 paragraphs in this section.

o  Your conclusion should wrap-up the main point you are trying to make.

You need to be organized and make good use of your work time in order to complete this in class. If you fall behind, you will need to work outside of class on your own, or schedule time with your teacher to work before or after school with your group. Presentations will be Monday, May 13th.
