Weekly Update for November 17 – December 5

Language Arts
We will be reading the book Hiking the Appalachian Trail. We will work on integrating new information into a summary. We will discuss important vs. supporting details as we summarize the important ideas.We will continue to discuss different comprehension strategies that help good readers understand what they read.
Students should continue reading their chapter books at least 20 minutes a day and record this on their Reading Log.
Spelling: Sort 10 – We will learn to identify –ce, -ve, and –se as word endings. We will have our spelling test on Friday. We will move on to Sort 11 after the break.
Grammar: We will continue our study of singular, plural, and possessive nouns. We are also learning about pronouns and conjunctions. We will continue to work on correct use of capitalization and puncuation.
Writing: Students have completed their research on the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. . Students will learn to put their notes together into an organized research paper. We will be working both in the Computer Lab and the Imagination Station to type our research papers.
Students are also working on writing an imaginative story about a scarecrow.
Social Studies
We will begin our our study of Susan B. Anthony. We will discuss how she contributed to our freedom and democracy. We will learn about the obstacles that she had to overcome and the character traits that she displayed.Students can review what we have learned by rereading the biography on Our tentative test date will be Thursday,
Dec. 4. / Math
We will begin our study of fractions. Students will learn to read and write fractions that name a part of a whole. We will also learn to represent fractions on a number line. We will be working in Chapter 10 of the My Math book. Just as a reminder, students may access their My Math book online. Students should continue to practice their multiplication facts on a regular basis. .
