Basketball Review Sheet

Types of Passes:

1. Bounce pass: a pass which touches the floor 2/3 the way away from your partner. It is a short range pass

2. chest pass:a 2 handed pass from your chest to the chest of yourteammate

It is a mid-range pass

Dribbling:

-Stance with feet shoulder width apart and knees slightly bent

-When dribbling the ball use your finger pads and keep the ball at waist level or below

-Head should be up and should not be on the ball

Shooting:

-Athletic stance but favorite foot staggered in front of the other

-Grip with favorite hand under the ball and opposite hand guiding

-Extend knees and arm at same time before release

-At release snap wrist and follow through with your hand in the cookie jar.

Ways to get open:

-Fake out the person who is guarding you by using a juke move

-Constantly move around while spreading out

-Quick passes

Defense

-Low and wide stance, with arms out

-Back straight and eyes on opponent’s midsection

-Stay between opponent and basket at all times

-Shuffle feet when guarding the opponent with the ball instead of crossing over

Vocabulary

Double Dribble: dribbling the ball with both hands at the same time or stopping a dribble and then starting back up.

Foul: Slapping or grabbing someone’s hand or pushing someone, causing a loss of possession or inbounding the ball

One-on-Onedefense involving one player guarding one player on Defense: the other team at all times

Traveling: Taking more than one step in any direction in excess while holding the ball.

RULES

  1. We play 1-on-1 defense. Only 1 person may guard another person at a time. No double teaming!
  1. In order to move with the basketball, you must dribble the ball.
  1. Each person on your team must pass the basketball before a shot can be made
  1. Once you stop dribbling, you may pivot, pass or shoot. You have 5s to pass the basketball or shoot once you begin pivoting. After 5s is up, it is a turnover and the other team gets the basketball.
  1. A turnover occurs when:
  1. someone double dribbles
  2. someone travels
  3. there is a foul
  4. five seconds is up
  5. the basketball is thrown out of bounds or a player steps out of bounce
  1. A foul occurs when you have been pushed or your arm has been slapped or grabbed by another player. If you have the ball and are fouled, your team gets 1 point. If you do hot have the ball and you are fouled it is a turnover.
  1. Each basket made is 1pt
  1. The games starts by checking the ball at the blue line on each court
  1. If there is a dispute between teams, rock-paper-scissors to solve it. Winner gets possession of the basketball.
