Volunteer Events Assistant

Volunteer Role Description

Department

Fundraising and Marketing

Hours/Shifts

Flexible to meet the needs of the Fundraising service matched with a volunteer’s availability.

Outline of the role

We need outgoing, enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the smooth running of Fundraising Events organised by Ashgate Hospicecare. This may include acting as a traffic marshal, driver, registering participants, greeting and directing participants, etc

We welcome anyone who would like to volunteer and, although no specific skills are required, a basic knowledge of Health & Safety would be useful. We also have a few ‘do's’ and ‘don’ts’ to which our volunteers need to adhere.

Key tasks

Volunteers will be expected to:

  • Take instruction only from the Event Fundraiser unless the instruction is givenby a member of the Emergency Services
  • Arrive at the event in plenty of time to receive briefings from the Event Fundraiser and be in place for the start of the event.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that will not damage the reputation of Ashgate Hospicecare and remain courteous at all times when engaging with members of the public
  • Wear a badge or item of clothing (e.g. T-shirt, Tabard or Hi Vis vest) that identifies them as an Event volunteer for AshgateHospicecare
  • Carry with them the contact details of theEventFundraiser and/or anyone else responsible for organising the Eventand to provide their contact details.

Volunteers will not:

  • Take it upon themselves to overrule any instruction given by the Event Fundraiser. If any volunteer is concerned that an instruction will endanger the health or safety of any event participant or volunteer, this must be raised immediately with the Event Fundraiser
  • Leave the event without signing out with the Event Fundraiser. This is to ensure that the health & safety of the participants and volunteers is not jeopardised (for example to maintain an accurate register in case of fire at a venue where the event is being held)

Other important information

  • All volunteers are required to maintain confidentiality around certain patient, contributor and Hospice information. Training will be given on this.
  • We welcome volunteers of any age. This includes those under 18 years of age with specific safeguarding arrangements put in place
  • Ashgate Hospicecare will not tolerate any verbal or physical abuse directed at any of our volunteers. Should an Events volunteer experience any abuse they should report the incident immediately to the Event Fundraiser and/or anyone else responsible for organising the collection, and to the Police.
  • DBS (formerly CRB) clearance will be needed for this role.
