Exalted Ruler’s Message:
I hope your Thanksgiving was a good one. Let’s not forget to thank the ones who gave us the right celebrate. Once again this December we will volunteer to transport wheel chair bound Veterans @ Leeds VA to the musical service held at the facilities chapel. Thanks to all those who took the time to march with us in the Veterans Day parade. Memorial Sunday will be on December 2nd @ 1pm
On November 17th Boy Scout Troup #5 held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Eagle Scout Zachery Elliot. Linda Gorey, Bob Mott and I had the pleasure to present him with a certificate and an American Flag.
I am proud to announce this year’s recipient of the Charity Fund Drive will go to Boy Scout Troup #5. They will receive a check for $300.00.
Saturday January 5th we will kick off our 100th anniversary with a rocking good time. You don’t want to miss this. We will have music to dance by, food, raffles and many fun things to do. Hope to see you there.

Anyone wanting to help wrap Christmas gifts for the Elks’ Children’s party, come down on Wednesday, December 12th at 6 p.m. We still need people to make deserts for the Friday night fish fries. Tip of the Antlers:
The Friday night kitchen crew donated their tips from last "season" to help fund the Kids' Christmas Party this year, a total of $428.00.When you see John Williams at the Lodge, Thank him for the little things he does, voluntarily, like cleaning out the drain behind the bar, so we didn't have to call a plumber, and for cleaning & organizing the furnace room. Thanks John
On Nov. 3, Fran Sirum & Linda Gorey helped Boy Scout Troop #5 put on a fund-raising spaghetti dinner, serving about 85 guests. Troop #5 is sponsored by our Lodge. The Scouts need to repair the roof on the Scout house. They will also be selling holiday wreaths & trees in Dec. as another fund raiser.
Nov. 17- Sid Jensen ER, Linda Gorey, & Bob Mott attended the Troop #5 Eagle Scout ceremony for Zach Elliot. An honorary certificate and flag were presented to Zach by Sid.*For his Eagle Project Zachary chose to help his school. He led scouts, students, and families in emptying the basement of Four Rivers Charter School, cleaning it out, sorting through everything, and organizing the items that were to remain, and then completed his Eagle Board of review.

Please check with George Herzig, who is in charge of delivering the Christmas dinners to those in need, if he needs help. And if you know of a family, please sign them up as soon as possible. The sign up list should be at the bar. Delivery and assembly is December 15, in the early morning.

HELP WANTED FOR FISH FRY- Mike Hisz will be going south at the end of Dec., we need someone to come in around 4pm to set up the serving table and make the shrimp cocktails. Thank you Mike, we all wish you & Pat a happy, healthy time in the warm weather. Also we need more help to come in and learn plating, the window, cooking, & clean up, so we don't burn out the volunteers we have now.

- LEGACY AWARDS: ENF (Elks National Foundation) will award 250 $4,000 scholarships. Massachusetts will award 9 for 2013-2017 academic years. Eligibility: child, grandchild, stepchild, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of an Elk who has been a member in good standing. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. Must be a high school senior. Must apply through a related Lodge member. Only applies to accredited US American schools, college, universities. STUDENT MUST COMPLETE APPLICATION & RETURN IT ONLINE NO LATER THAN FEB.1, 2013
- MASS ELKS SCHOLARSHIP, INC. ---Applications available at Lodge and guidance offices of Frontier Regional, Mohawk Regional, and Greenfield High School. Those seeking renewal must also fill out an application in order to be considered.Available: Oct. 1, 2013 AT LODGE. DUE: FEB. 1, 2013.
- MASS. ELKS-VOCATIONAL GRANT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM-With funds from the ENF, Mass. will award 30 1-yr. scholarships of $1,000.00 ELIGIBILITY: high school seniors intending to attend a 2 yr. vocational technical course in a school or college leading to a Terminal Associates Degree, Certificate or Diploma, but less than a Bachelors Degree, not part time or night school. No age limit. Applications available @ Franklin Tech School. Oct. 1, 2013. Due at Lodge: March 1, 2013.
HOOP SHOOT: Again this fall the "hoop shoot" contest sponsored by the Greenfield lodge needs your help. The contest is for girls and boys between the ages of 8 & 13as of April 1, 2013. This contest provides an opportunity for youngsters to participate and represent our lodge of Elks in this national event at no cost to contestants or parents. We need your help in informing your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, schools, churches, youth groups, and basketball leagues of this up-coming event.Please provide Bob Mott, (email ) with any contact information or leave it in the secretary's box. We need all your kids to make this program a success. Contest date is Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 @ YMCA, Greenfield, 2:00 pm girls, and 3:00 pm boys with a collation @ 5:00 pm at the Elks.This is a free and fun event for boys and girls. Please tell your friends and neighbors. I will need Volunteers to help sign up the kids and spotters at the event, please see Bob Mott.
On December 8, 2012, theGHS Student Councilwill host trivia night. Doors open at 6:30. The first question is at 7:00. It usually ends around 9:00. For more information contact Angie Mass at 413-522-0316. Open to anyone.

Shakin’ All Over has rented the Lodge for a New Year’s Eve party. The Lodge will be closed to members at 6:00 p.m. on December 31, 2012. Tickets will go on sale soon. Any Lodge member wishing to attend will get a $5.00 discount off the $35.00 per person price. The price includes a buffet dinner and champagne toast at midnight and, of course, dancing to Shakin’ All Over. For more information see the fliers at the Lodge.

Turkey Trot was a great night! We served about 150 meals and raffled off 50 turkeys plusgave away two Turkeys for door prizes. Special thanks to the kitchen help:Fran & Linda,Dennis Moore,Butch Denofrio,Jason Kilgour, our new Elk member Mike Koncaland Dee Fleming for bussing the tables. Thanks also to: Donna Kilgor who sold meal ticketsand theoil charityraffle tickets. 'Three Southern Kick Rule' A New York lawyer went duck hunting in rural area of the South. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence.
As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it."
The old farmer Peter replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."
The New Yorklawyer said, "I am one of the best trial lawyers in The USA and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own."
The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in the South. We settle small disagreements like this with the 'Three Kick Rule.'
The lawyer asked, "What is the 'Three Kick Rule'?"
The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, I get to go first. I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up."
The lawyer quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the oldcodger. He agreed to abide by the local custom. The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel-toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees! His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth. The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end, sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.
Summoning every bit of his will and remaining strength the lawyer very slowly managed to get to his feet. Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old fart. Now it's my turn."

The old farmer smiled and said, "Nah, I give up. You can have the duck."

An officer called to the scene of a head-on collision interviews the two drivers. First, he talks to a young woman, who tells him, “That guy was all over the road! I couldn’t avoid him.”
Then, he walks over to the older man in the second car. “Sir, the other driver says you were driving erratically.”
I was not! I stayed on my side the entire time!”
“Just out of curiosity, which side was yours?”
“I was just about to make up my mind.”

An old gentleman drives in the fast lane of the freeway at his normal cruising speed, which is far to slow.
When the highway patrol officer pulls him over, he asks, “sir, do you know why I stopped you?”
“Sure I do,” the older gent replies. “I was the only one you could catch!”

Two elderly friends are sitting on a bench waiting for their bus. The bus is running very late, and a lot of time has passed. After a while, one woman begins to shift around a bit and says, “You know, we’ve been sitting here so long, my bottom fell asleep!”
Her friend replies rather sarcastically: “Oh, I know! I heard it snoring!”

Dear Lodge Secretary:
Having read the enclosed memorandum from the Grand Lodge Insurance Director, following is the breakdown of the total Grand Lodge Per Capita fees for the 2013-2014 fraternal year.
Grand Lodge Expenses and Operation (includes $1.00 National Home Assessment) $7.50
Elks Magazine Subscription $5.50
General Liability Insurance $3.00
Total$16.00
The above figures, as well as your State Association dues, have been added to your CLMS2Web program and will be included in the combined total on your Lodge Dues Statements. The Grand Lodge fees of $16.00 per member will be calculated by multiplying this amount by the ending membership figure (Line 12) submitted on your Annual Membership Report. Your State Association fees must be paid separately and sent directly to your State Secretary.
Under Sections 4.231 and 14.150, Laws of the Order, in addition to their dues, it is now mandatory for the collection of these Per-Capita Assessments from each member as well as Per Capita from a Life Member. The total Per-Capita for Grand Lodge, Elks Magazine and Insurance is $16.00 per member.
