Using Your Exchange Mailbox

1.  Where is all my old email? (!)

·  Don’t worry, it is still there – stored in your “personal data file.” Please see the document “Managing Outlook Personal Data Files” at http://webmail.kickstart.org/instructions.

2.  Is there a limit on the amount of data I can store in my Exchange Mailbox?

·  Yes. Mailbox storage is limited to 1GB. If you need more, please contact your system administrator.

3.  Is there a limit on how large messages can be?

·  Yes, 10MB is the maximum message size.

4.  How do I access my Mailbox from the Web?

·  Use Outlook Web Access. Go to http://webmail.kickstart.org and login with your username (that is, everything to the left of the @ sign) and password.

5.  How do I set an auto-reply email when I am out of the office?

·  You may use the Out-of-Office Assistant available under Options in the OWA. Full instructions are in “Using Outlook Web Access”.

6.  Do I need to click Send/Receive in Outlook?

·  No. Messages are delivered to your Inbox as soon as they arrive on the server, even if you are outside the office.

7.  Can I use POP (also known as POP3) or IMAP (also known as IMAP4) to access my Kickstart email account?

·  No.

8.  Can I access my KickStart email directly with a mobile device such as a smart phone?

·  Probably. There are a wide variety of mobile devices and ways of accessing them. Exchange supports most of them.

°  Windows Mobile devices are supported.

°  Apple’s iPhone is supported.

°  RIM’s Blackberry is supported, depending on your plan. There are several different ways to get email to a Blackberry, not all of which we support. Please ask about your configuration.

·  We will be developing instructions for these various platforms as we determine the need.

Spam and viruses

9.  What is MXLogic and why are they emailing me every day?

·  MXLogic is a third-party spam and virus filtering service. All mail sent to a kickstart.org email address gets filtered through MXLogic.

·  Every email address receives a Spam Quarantine Report of messages filtered. From that report, users can free up blocked messages. The reports are sent once per day.

10.  Hardly anything goes to my Junk E-Mail folder in Outlook. Why is this?

·  Since spam and junk mail are now being handled by MXLogic, the Outlook Junk E-Mail folder becomes confusing. We have disabled the Junk E-Mail folder.

·  If you explicitly block a sender using Outlook, those messages will still get put into Junk E-Mail. We do not recommend using the Outlook blocked sender feature. Please remove any addresses you have there.

11.  Should I still use the anti-spam software installed directly on my computer?

·  No. We recommend against running additional spam software in combination with MXLogic as it can confuse troubleshooting.

·  We recommend un-installing or disabling anti-spam software on your computer.

Old email (yahoo-based email)

12.  How do I access my old email at Yahoo?

·  You may use the Yahoo webmail interface. In a browser, go to http://mail.kickstart.org.

·  Enter your email address and old email password (that is, the same one you have always used with Yahoo – that did not change).

·  These accounts should stay active until 1 May 2009. However, no new email is coming into the Yahoo mailbox, and you should not send out from it.

13.  Should I still use my old Yahoo email from Outlook 2007?

·  No. KickStart no longer supports using your Yahoo mailbox, and no new email will go there. However, you may have a need to download a large amount of legacy email from Yahoo. If you do, please contact a desktop support person.

14.  Where is all my old email? (!)

·  Don’t worry, it is still there – stored in your “personal data file.” Please see the document “Managing Outlook Personal Data Files”
