Presentation of Reading Selection / Review the concept of identifying point of view in a reading selection. / Review the concept of making a time line. / Students will hand in the Graphic Organizer: My new Words.
Development Activities / Teacher will present the definition of a memoir (6.4 Resource: Characteristics of a memoir) / Reading Aloud: Esmeralda Santiago’s Interview, while the students listen and react. / Students review Esmeralda Santiago’s Interview throughout a discussion guided by the teacher, in order for them to identify the point of view in the reading selection provided. / Using the information from Esmeralda Santiago’s Interview student will complete a time line, in order to identify the sequence of events and the importance and relevance of them. / Group discussion to share students’ graphic organizer in order to establish vocabulary learned during the week and through the reading of Esmeralda Santiago’s Interview.
