Ultimate Frisbee Unit

Day #1

Objectives: / The student will become knowledgeable on the history of the flying disc.
The student will become knowledgeable on the history of ultimate frisbee.
The student will learn how to perform a backhand disc throw using the correct technique.
The student will learn how to catch a flying disc using two hands.
Activities: / Partner Disc Toss: Toss disc back and forth using a backhand toss. (How many can you catch without dropping the disc. Dominant hand. Non-Dominant hand.)
Angle Disc Toss: Teacher will toss the flying disc at an angle while the students run and try to catch it in the air.
Partner Angle Toss: Students will run and catch a frisbee tossed at an angle.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, Flying Discs, cones
Assessment: / .How many times can you throw and catch at flying disc without letting it drop.
ACOS: / Demonstrate complex movement sequences in a variety of physical activities
Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior during physical activities.
Utilize rules and strategies for safe game play and selected lifetime activities.
Homework: / Practice correct backhand form.

Day #2

Objectives: / The student will become knowledgeable on the rules of ultimate frisbee.
The student will learn how to catch a flying disc using one hand.
The student will properly throw a flying disc using the correct backhand from 6 out of 10 times.
Activities: / Partner toss: Toss disc back and forth using a backhand toss. (How many can you catch without dropping the disc. Dominant hand. Non-Dominant hand.)
Flying disc relay: Group of 6 students will try to relay a flying disc without it hitting the ground. (1st to finish without dropping the disc).
Routes: How to run a route to get away from your defense.
Competition: How far can you throw a flying disc?
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, flying discs, cones
Assessment: / Self assess their catching abilities.
ACOS: / Demonstrate complex movement sequences in a variety of physical activities
Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior during physical activities.
Utilize rules and strategies for safe game play and selected lifetime activities.
Homework: / Practice throwing and catching techniques.

Day #3

Objectives: / The student will properly throw a frisbee correctly 70 % of the time using their dominant hand.
The student will put into effect the correct rules of ultimate frisbee during a mini game.
The student will become understand the rule of the defensive player.
Activities: / Flow
Partner Frisbee pass (long and short distance)
Running while throwing with a partner (3 step rule)
Mini Games
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, Frisbees, cones, pennies
Assessment: / Assess their own throws
ACOS: / Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior during physical activities.
Demonstrate complex movement in a variety of physical activities.
Utilize rules and strategies for safe game play and selected lifetime activities.
Homework: / Practice stopping after 3 steps.

Day #4

Objectives: / The student will properly throw a frisbee correctly 60% of the time using their non-dominant hand.
The student will play mini games focusing on using the arm length defensive rule.
The student will learn how to begin a game with a throw off.
Activities: / Flow drill
Flow drill with a defense
Mini Game
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, Frisbees, cones, pennies
Assessment: / Team assessment on the Flow drill
ACOS: / Demonstrate responsible personal and social behavior during physical activities.
Demonstrate complex movement in a variety of physical activities.
Utilize rules and strategies for safe game play and selected lifetime activities.

Day #5 Choice Day

Objectives: / The student will choose an activity in which they would like to participate.
The student will participate in the activities using proper sportsmanship skills and proper skill form.
Activities: / Wii dance, basketball shooting, walking, 4 square
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire,
Assessment: / The teacher will assess each student to make sure they are using proper sportsmanship skills throughout the activities.
ACOS: / Explain differences between legal and illegal behaviors in sports.
Demonstrate dances used for social and recreational enjoyment and physical fitness enhancement.
