We’ve had some good news and some bad news!
First the good news. Congratulations to Hendra Barfoot who had a baby boy on 11 April. Julian is a welcome brother to Gabbi and Ruby.
Unfortunately one of our Comrades runners and Bill Rowan contenders, Jannie van Rooyen, had a work related accident and badly broke his ankle. He is recovering at home and will be out of action for a few months. Our thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
COMRADES 2012
Comrades is around the corner and the club is proud to have 53 members taking part this year.
There will be a club breakfast run on Sunday 27 May. Details will follow on sms.
Club branded tog bags will be available at R100 each. The design is still being finalised but it will look something like this
Dave Wright a 5 times Comrades gold medallist (with his best being 2nd to Alan Robb) visited the club on Tuesday 15 May. After running our time trial he delivered a great Comrades talk. We want to thank Dave again for his time and for the WISDOM that he shared with us!
We would like to wish every Alberton Athlete the best of luck on Comrades day.

The club tent will be at +-60km on the route. Any of our runners’ family members and friends are welcome and encouraged to join the club tent on route. We are short of hands at the club tent so if there are any non-Comrades runners going down or if you know anyone in the area please contact Andries Venter on 083727 2970.
If you want to leave anything to be available at the club tent, please place it in a bag with your name (and instructions) and hand it in at the club on Tuesday night or on Sunday 27 May at the breakfast run.
The club tent at the finish will be on site 33 as indicated on the image below.

ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVING POINTS SYSTEM
The system is explained fully on the website under Road Running -> Incentives or contact Andries Venter or Deon Pretorius for more information.
In summary:
- The first 3 runners per category at selected CGA, GN and Vaal races receive 100, 99 and 98 points respectively.
- To be considered for an annual category prize a person has to compete in at least 3 races (from the selected list) for that category for the year and the person’s top 3 points for the year for that category are added together.
- The top 3 points earners for the year win first, second and third place per category.
- A person receives additional points for breaking club records for a specific category and distance at any of the selected races.
- The reason for limiting it to CGA, GN and Vaal races is mainly to eliminate the advantage someone gains from running at lower altitude as well as to “equal” the playing field regarding costs to attend far-off races.
