Job Description

Core Purpose

To support the Academy in managing absence and implementing successful strategies for maintaining consistently high levels of attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the attendance management system and ensuring staff taking registers are aware of the coding system which should be used in order to comply with the Academy’s requirements.
  • Carry out Quality Assurance checks on the data collected and deal with any anomalies e.g. missing marks.
  • Determine whether an absence be authorised and be responsible for updating the system accordingly with any information received regarding student absence e.g. letters, notes phone calls etc.
  • Based on the absence reports undertake a daily ring round taking into account any current issues surrounding individual students.
  • Where explanations cannot be obtained, instigate follow up procedures to obtain reasons for student absence by preparing home visit list for 1st Day contact and send out Truancy call.
  • If appropriate, notify other staff of information received during this follow up exercise e.g. bullying, child protection issues etc.
  • Review and monitoring of cases to ensure a positive outcome by following the Attendance Pathway Tier 1.
  • Maintaining accurate and appropriate records to allow production of statistics and reports as required for meetings and court packs.
  • Where relevant, establish and advise current procedures and/or legislation relating to such areas as Elective Home Education, Leave of Absence requests and Children Missing out of Educationetc.
  • Assist the Attendance & Safeguarding Manager in managing and improving attendance at the Academy.
  • Providing feedback to the relevant school staff
  • Attend relevant meetings and training sessions as directed
  • Observe and implement good Health & Safety practices
  • Undertake such other duties as may be necessary within the scope of the job

The post holder will also be expected to undertake to carry out such other duties as are required and as are commensurate with the grade of the post by the Principal, Senior Leadership team or Governors to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Academy.
