BASELINE ACTIVITIES FOR WHOLE CLASS:

Students will be grouped into pairs. Each pair will be given two tables of data. The students will choose one of the tables and create a scenario that could be described by the given data. Once the scenario has been decided upon, the students will create a poster with the table and the scenario written on it. Each pair will also graph the data they were given. The graph should be labeled appropriately and have a scale that makes sense for the data. The students must decide if the data has positive, negative or no correlation, whether the data is continuous or discrete and write the independent and dependent variables in the correct spaces in the sentence “______depends on ______”. / 100

NOTES:

Points were given for accuracy and creativity.

Students had to switch doing activities so that no one was doing all the work for both group members.

The teacher must approve the scenario before the students are given paper for the poster.

ASSESSMENT:

Students got up to present their poster and describe their scenario and their findings in the front of the class. They had to explain why their scenario fits their data, the reasoning behind choosing the correlation and whether the data was discrete or continuous. They also had to tell which of their variables were independent and dependent and why.
The seated students could ask questions or comment on the posters. / 10

NOTES: Each member of the group must say at least one thing about the poster.
