Štefan Krasňanský Was Born Into a Peasantfamily in Viničné. This Environment Influenced

Štefan Krasňanský (*1.10.1935 – +4.5.2001)

Štefan Krasňanský was born into a peasantfamily in Viničné. This environment influenced his attitude to nature and to animals. It also lead him to become a member of the Slovak hunting association and a member of the local hunting club – Martinský Háj in Senec. His hunting activities were closely linked with breeding and training of hunting dogs. His breeding station ‘’Vyrovec’’ was known due to exceptional offspring of different breeds. He bred and trained English pointers, German wirehaired and shorthaired pointers, English setters, but most of all he loved Bohemian wirehaired griffons. He was a member of the Federal Association of Bohemian Griffon Club and breeding advisor for Slovakia and after Slovak independence in 1993 he became a chief breeding advisor in Slovakia for Bohemian Griffon Club, he was also a co-founder of this club. Bohemian griffon was his main field; there he was enforcing strong selection for its health purification. He was supportive and helpful for other trainers to gain universality of Bohemian griffon and he himself was an example of that.

In 1974 he became a winner of the Memorial of Karla Podhajského with Bohemian griffon Evar z Báhoňa. In 1977 he won again with Juno z Čandalu. In 1978 he won Memorial of Fratišek Houska with Bohemina griffon Horno z Brezné. In 1980 with Alik z Tomkovských jazier and in 1981 with Evar zo Záhorských pieskov he won Memorial of Jozef Kadlec, bith of them were Bohemian griffons.

Further renowned victories and success in other competitions tells about his exceptional abilities. Despite all his successes he remained modest and friendly human being, hunter, trainer, friend who always helped others. He was very likeable person and all his colleagues remember him with a fondness.

Memorial of Štefan Krasňanský was set up in 2004 to honour his memory. It is one of the most prominent cynological events of pointers in Slovakia, which is organised by Slovak breeding club of Bohemian Griffon.
