A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING BRIGADIER GENERAL (RETIRED) HAZEL ANNE JOHNSON FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Whereas, Brigadier General (Retired) Hazel Anne Johnson has spent sixteen years of exemplary service as a legislative nurse for the General Assembly; and

Whereas, she has been awarded the United States Legion of Merit, has received the annual Brigadier General (Retired) William C. McLain, Jr. Award, and as a member of the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers, was an official United States delegate and observer to NATO meetings around the world; and

Whereas, Ms. Johnson has received numerous distinctions for her service to her State as a past president, treasurer, and Woman of the Year of the Midlands Chapter of the American Business Association, as the first and only female president of the Department of South Carolina, Reserves Officers Association, and as past chair, Volunteer of the Year, and member of the board of directors of the Emergency Community Services Committee of the Central Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross; and

Whereas, her accolades extend to the support of her alma mater as a three-year appointee by the President of West Virginia University to the School of Nursing’s Visiting Committee, as a sponsor of the Hazel Anne Johnson Nursing Scholarship, and as the first member from the School of Nursing appointed to the West Virginia University Irvin Stewart Society; and

Whereas, she has received one of South Carolina’s highest honors, the Order of the Palmetto, from Governor Carroll Campbell; and

Whereas, she has rendered outstanding service to the members of the General assembly as a legislative nurse, a position from which she has now retired. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Brigadier General (Retired) Hazel Anne Johnson for her many years of distinguished service to the General Assembly, to her State, and to her nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brigadier General (Retired) Hazel Anne Johnson.
