It's time to elect student trustees for the 2014-15 school year. As a school team, identify one person (e.g. vice-principal) to be the election coordinator for your school. Please connect with students in your school who may be interested in the student trustee role. Included with this memo, you will find:

  • So you want to be a student trustee fact sheet with information about the role and elections
  • Candidate application and consent form
  • Campaign video guidelines
  • Informed consent release
  • Ready-made announcements asking for interested candidates
  • Tips for running the student trustee elections at your school

The Peel board has two student trustees—one representing schools north of Highway 401 and one representing schools south of Highway 401. To be eligible to run for student trustee, students must:

  • be a full-time Peel board secondary school student, or an identified special education student whose timetable has been reduced as an appropriate accommodation
  • be 16 years or older by Dec. 31
  • have parent consent, if younger than 18
  • have strong academic standing and strong leadership and communication skills

We need your help ensuring that board-wide election runs smoothly. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Use the announcements and other methods to inform students about the opportunity to run for student trustee.
  1. Provide interested and eligible students with a candidate package consisting of the So you want to be a student trustee fact sheet, application and consent form, and video guidelines.
  1. Have interested students attend the All Candidates information meeting from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, February 24, at the HJA Brown Education Centre, 5650 Hurontario Street in Mississauga – RSVP to R. Rozario by Feb. 20 with candidate names and any dietary needs. Call parents to ask permission for students to attend.
  1. By March 5, receive the following from candidates:
  • completed consent and application form (this needs to be signed by you)
  • cover letter and resume
  • a CD with: a digital photo of the student and their three-minute campaign presentation or video in WMV or MOV format

By March 6, put the completed candidate packages, containing all items listed above,in the board courier addressed to:
