Introduction
This specifications provides the definition of the medical Laboratory Service Report Message (PTHPRP) to be used on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) between Pathology Laboratories and Services Requestors according to UN/EDIFACT standards.
1Scope
1.1Functional Definition
A message specifying one pathology test report.
1.2Field of Application
The medical Laboratory Report Message (PTHPRP) may be used nationally for reports on pathology tests. This will be dependant on the acceptance of this message by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and the international health community under the auspices of the United Nations.
1.3Principles
A pathology laboratory report message is a response to a previously requested test by a requestor.

3.Terms and Definitions
The service Requestor may be a medical practitioner, a hospital or another pathology
laboratory.
The Service Provider is a pathology laboratory.
The Message may contain only one laboratory test report.

3.1Data Formats
All numeric fields must be "USAGE DISPLAY".
All negative numeric fields must be LEADING SIGNED.
All monetary values must be expressed in CENTS (i.e. two decimal places of rand are assumed.)
There may be no embedded points or commas.
All numeric fields must be left-justified.
