  1. Call Meeting to order. By Jill Williams at3:03pm.
  1. Approve Meeting Minutes from November 24, 2016 – approved by Gilman and seconded by Sanders
  • School Improvement Plan (SIP) Updates by Principal and Departments
  • Guidance- Eric Belliard (Derrick Burgess): OECD test (Organization for Economic Corporation and Development) which is under the program of International Student Assessment. The test is a random selection of 85 students and it compares them to other countries to see how they perform with students all over the world. The students will take the test on 1/30/17; no individual score; group score and we can use this measurement to say what needs to be improved. Regular FSA test (writing and reading) all 9th and 10th take writing test weeks of 2/27/17-3/10/17. Writing and reading are combined and in order to receive a score, students have to take both tests. Need all students to be in attendance. Regular retakes for Juniors who have not met requirements and Seniors who are struggling with the reading FSA. Algebra 1 retake 03/27/17- 04/07/17. Super Testing, school shut down for 6 days in April to focus on testing. Alg 1, Bio, US History, writing. April 5th will be all Juniors taking the SAT and some Seniors and this will be done in school during the day.
  • Reading/Writing – Anita Parsotan: Literacy week with activities. Jazz café w/ 20 students on Wednesday 1/25/17. Thursday is wear red for literacy. Friday is teacher dress up based on their favorite characters and stories. Next week, ELA EOC Camp starts from 2:45pm-4:00pm Monday/Wednesday and on Saturday from 9:30am-11:00am. First part of the camp is improving writing strategies and vocabulary development. The camp runs until March 8th; the second part of the camp will focus on the reading part of the FSA.
  • Math – Melissa Nichols (Chad Marcoux): afterschool tutoring with teachers, PLC and Data teams in the 3rd cycle. Next week 2/1/17 to work with Alg1 retakes for Soph, Jr and Sr. Organizing EOC camps for after school and Saturday
  • Science – Fabian Calero:Thanks again for covering for me. Please let everyone know that currently in Science we have two students registering for the Science Fair. Ms. Russell is the coordinator of the Science Fair for our school. On January 25th, all Biology students will be taking a mock Biology EOC exam. The purpose and objective of the mock exam is to determine what content areas of Biology our students are proficient in and what areas our teachers should focus on in preparation for the EOC exam in May. Finally, our Biology EOC camp will be starting in mid-Feburary. The EOC camp is open to all Biology students and the camp will offer tutoring 3x a week including Saturdays. Final dates and times are being finalized but information will be given out to the students within the next two weeks.
  • Differentiated Accountability – Mrs. Patty Brown (AP of Operations): Update on principal status, meeting is taking place right now in the media center, 2 people who are being interviewed. Decision will be made on February 1st. ASL had a show on Friday and Saturday, Disney in Sign 2. The ability to transfer from what they are learning from class to song with Mr. Marhefka who participated. Saturday night Color Guard competed at Taravella and we won. Boy’s soccer team won first round of playoffs against Deerfield Beach High. Play tomorrow night at Spanish River 6pm against Monarch. Academic focus: first week back after break was utilized and pushing our students to own their learning; data week. Social Studies had to use virtual counselor to look up all of their information, FAIR testing. Required to set a goal. Moved into their reading/English class and how they would achieve their goals. We want students to own their own learning. Also incorporated was the PSAT data, some 9th, all of 10th and some 11th. Students discussed the meaning of the scores with the teacher. Ability to go onto Khan academy and pull questions to help prepare the students for college..questions will continue to be used throughout the remainder of the year. Mrs. Parsotan has been giving the question stems to the teachers to help them assist students with what will be on the FSA. Hot Text questions 2 part questions; 1st is answering the question and 2nd is justifying the answer. Learning to cite text questions to be ready. Students struggle to justify and cite their responses. Vertical training with English, science, social studies and math with forest glen and Margate middle. Had middle school teachers meet with the high school teachers as to what they want/need to come into high school with. Writing and reading scores are combined. Over 5,000 received a 0 on the FSA writing due to plagiarism. Tonight is the curriculum night for incoming and current parents to learn about what the school offers to the students.
  • Mr. Marhefka: EOC camps, will finalize dates and do a robocall home. Patty Brown is the AP of the year nominee.
