NJC SO1 £25,440 - £27,123

This is a full time post.

The normal working week is 37.5 hours, worked flexibly to prearranged schedules & may require additional hours at busy times, but within compliance of European Working Time Directives.

LOCATION OF THE POST HOLDER

The post holder will be based at the NUM offices in Manchester. The post involves some travel throughout the UK and occasional work out of office hours.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • Producing National Ugly Mugs alerts to disseminate to members.
  • Providing practical support and advice to sex workers when they’ve been the victim of a crime. This may be by telephone, face-to-face, e-mail or through online netreach activity.
  • Establishing strong national partnerships with existing support services.
  • Liaising with police and acting as an intermediary between sex workers and the police.
  • Dealing with complex cases on an ongoing basis.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Relationship with the Operations Manager
  • To support the Operations Manager in the service delivery of National Ugly Mugs.
  • To support the Operations Managers to develop and maintain effective client case management systems and support procedures.
  1. Communication and Relationships
  • Developing and maintaining key contacts in police forces and other parts of the Criminal Justice System throughout the country.
  • To provide non-judgmental support to sex workers irrespective of their gender identity, personal circumstances and experience of sex work.
  • Establishing strong pathways into support organisations throughout the UK
  • Promoting NUM to member projects, non-member projects, other agencies, sex worker led organisations and online forums.
  • Promoting a collaborative approach to delivering NUM, where possible and appropriate, involving member projects, sex worker organisations and online forums.
  • Promoting the vision, philosophy and objectives of NUM.
  • Supporting the Operations Manager in ensuring that effective pathways are in place and maintained for feeding reports to police intelligence and analysis systems at national and local levels.
  • Giving evidence in court when required.
  • To undertake other duties, assigned by the senior staff, which reasonably fall within the scope of the post.

  • To develop and maintain a thorough database of support agencies and key contacts throughout the UK.
  • To keep abreast of trends in the UK sex work markets.
  1. Culture
  • To promote diversity and equality of opportunity in all NUM’s work and practices.
  1. Monitoring and evaluation
  • To ensure that NUM case management has the appropriate monitoring systems in place which are constantly maintained.
  • To produce regular reports on NUM case management for NUM Operations Manager and CEO.
  • To produce an ongoing library of case studies.
  1. Emotional and physicaleffort
  • There will be frequent direct exposure to emotional and/or distressing circumstances in relation to the role.
  • This is a high pressured role which will require some work out of office hours and some travel throughout the UK.
  1. Knowledge training and skills required
  • Excellent administrative and organisation skills.
  • Demonstrable case work skills with experienced in delivering advice, information, emotional and practical support and advocacy in partnership withhealth, wellbeing and criminal justice outcomes for individuals who may have experienced traumatic events.
  • Strong empathic and active listening skills.
  • An understanding of Equal Opportunities, the diversity of sex work and the impact of criminalisation, stigma, and marginalisation on sex workers.
  • Experience of working alongside and within the criminal justice system.
  • The ability to understand local, regional and national policy and evidence based research in relation to community safety, health and social inclusion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with multiple partners to manage complex cases.
  • An effective communicator with the ability to deliver guidance, advice and support to a diverse range of stakeholders to promote best practice in relation to supporting sex workers when they’re victims of crime.
  • Prepared to undertake continued professional development.
  • Experience of using online communication tools or a willingness to learn.
