Election update

-Parent candidates elected: Rebecca Lang and Laurel Nelson

-Teacher candidate elected: Lesley Rogers

-New members have been invited to our next meeting

-New council members will participate in training and transition into positions in July

-Voting goal: Staff 70% and Parents 10%

-12% Parents really voted – increase 156% increase

-80% Teachers and staff – increase 28%

-Faculty and staff vote shows their support and understanding about what SGC is and does

-Several issues about voting emails going clutter vs. inbox

-Emails individualized caused additional confusion

Seed Fund update

-Board scheduled to vote on Seed Fund at April Board meeting

-April board meeting is when board approves overall budget (reason for delay since Foundation approved Seed Funds)

SGC Superintendent Meeting

-AP courses are pushed extensively

-Mr. Rose shared his perspective about his daughter not being stressed/pushed to be in AP courses

-Becomes an issue when students cant get into UGA without 12 hours of courses

-High schools are missing honors courses. Student choices are on level or AP

-The district’s preference is to move to 1 assessment.

-IOWA is preferred over Milestones, but would align IOWA to Milestones

-Milestones data is received so late, very little value in regards to learning/instruction

-Not producing enough teachers for positions nationally

-Fulton is working hard to retain teacher

- River Eves/Mr. Pinnock does an excellent job to hire and retain excellent teachers

-Many schools are struggling to recruit and retain quality teachers

-65% of current teachers recommend their child not become teachers.

-Mr. Rose believes there are too many kids in TAG

-students should test into it

-intended for exceptional students.

-TAG at REES

-STEM initiative has made all classrooms more TAG-like

-Parent feedback is that pull out model changes dynamics of classroom and is disruptive.

-Teachers can only teach new content 4 days/week.

-Can SGC address TAG model at the school level?

Mountain Park pulls students 1 hour/day vs. whole day

-SGC would like input from parents/teachers on TAG and current program.

-HBMS offers TAG/advanced classes (this is unique to HBMS)

-HBMS offers pace options course by course. Rolling out this year

Julia Bernath

-Recess bill is going to House for approval, passed in Senate(30 minute recess)

- Prefer only one assessment

-Conduct/student responsibility cycle was shared

-Offense=recommended repercussions

-Should have received SGC self-check survey and principal feedback survey

-River Eves has been identified as a receiving school for the 2017-2018 Open Enrollment transfer process.Qualifying elementary and middle schools are those that have an excess of 2 or more available classrooms based on next year’s forecast estimates and teacher allocations.

-Gardner and Kirk are working on Earth Day book reading
