PROLSIR vs PROFILE vs SORT Commands

Dairy Comp items to know:

SID: Sire ID

MGSID: Maternal Grand Sire ID

GGSID: Great Grand Sire ID

  • Note: If GGSID item does not exist for you, run command: SIRES\S

LSIR: Last Sire a cow or heifer was bred to (last service sire)

ELNM: Estimated Lifetime Net Merit ($LNM)

  • Note: Examples given within this document use ELNM. However, same concepts apply to all other genetic items in our Genex Dairy Comp Basis file (EDPR, EPL, ESCS, EMILK, EFAT, EPTN, etc)

***Important: We use the same item names (ELNM, EPL, ESCS, EMILK, etc) when running genetic analysis. Depending on what command is chosen (PROLSIR, PROFILE, or SORT), we are then loading the sire proof information from the different sire items of SID, MGSID, GGSID, or LSIR.

PROLSIR Command

Purpose: Provide genetic analysis of a herds current service sires.

What is being loaded? Loads sire proof information for all LSIR’s

***Important:PROLSIR command must be run prior to any analysis with regards to service sires. Command may be run by either typing PROLSIR into command line or selecting it from the Dropdown Menu

PROLSIR Example: After running the PROLSIR command, we are now looking at the ELNM of the LSIR item. As of the April 2015 proofs, bull 1H10738 has a $LNM = 705.

PROFILE Command

Purpose: Provide genetic analysis of the cows and heifers currently within the herd

What is being loaded? Loads sire proof information for all SID’s

***Important:PROFILE command must be run prior to any analysis with regards to herd genetics.

Command may be run by either typing PROFILE into command line or selecting it from the Dropdown Menu

PROFILE Example: After running the PROFILE command, we are now looking at the ELNM of the SID item. As of the April 2015 proofs, bull 1H10218 has a $LNM = 590.

SORT Command

Purpose: Provide Parent Average genetic analysis of the cows and heifers currently within the herd

What is being loaded? Loads sire proof information for all SID’s, MGSID’s, and GGSID’s. Genetic items are now being listed as a Parent Average (1/2 SID + ¼ MGSID + 1/8 GGSID +1/8 Breed Average)

***Note: After doing several example cows and heifers, it appears that Dairy Comp is not actually using a Breed Average value in their calculations for Parent Averages (see example)

***Important:SORT command must be run prior to any Parent Average analysis with regards to herd genetics. Command may be run by either typing SORT into command line or selecting it from the Dropdown Menu

SORT Example: After running the SORT command, we are now looking at the ELNM of the SID, MGSID, and GGSID (parent average value). As of the April 2015 proofs:

  • 1H10218 has a $LNM = 590
  • 1H8654 has a $LNM = 221
  • 1H5551 has a $LNM = -87

Using Parent Average Formula:ELNM = (590 x 0.5) + (221 x 0.25) + (-87 x 0.125) = 339.375
