Frost Valley’s “Hiking Weekend”Will BringOutdoor Enthusiaststo the Catskills’ Best Trails

CLARYVILLE — Frost Valley YMCA announces Hiking Weekend on April 15-17, 2016 to bring together hikers of all skill levelstofavoriteCatskills trails.Early spring is a wonderful time to enjoy a Catskills hike:The birds are returning, the trees are budding, and the chilled air keeps you cool as you traverse the rocky terrain. And what better way to hike than with a group of fellow nature enthusiasts?Groups and individuals meet at Frost Valley, where they’ll spend the weekend trekking trails both on Frost Valley property and at nearby trailheads. Frost Valley hikes include: Catskill History hike, Cable Bridge hike, a hike to a Bear Cave or High Falls waterfall, and more. Guests are also shuttled from the camp to nearbyoff-campus trailheadsincluding Slide Mountain, Giant Ledge, Double Top, and Red Hill Fire Tower.All meals are provided and there are several lodging options for those who plan to spend the weekend at Frost Valley (inquire about special rates). Activities on camp include: lessons in orienteering, topographical map reading, and essential gear-packing; wildlife ecology; tree and plant identification; and traditional Frost Valley activities (archery, climbing, crafting, and more).

Authors David and Carol White will lead a slideshow and discussion of "The Peaks and Trails of the Catsill Park."The Whites are authors of Catskill Day Hikes for All Seasons and editors of Catskill Trails, published by the Adirondack Mountain Club. The Whites became winter members of the Catskill 3500 Club in 1994, Adirondack Winter 46ers in 1997, and completed winter climbs of the 48 White Mountain high peaks in 2006. They are Northeast USA 111ers, climbers of the 115 peaks exceeding 4,000 feet, and have climbed eight of Colorado’s 14,000-footers. In October 2014, they achieved recognition by the Catskill Mountain Club as first ‘Catskill All Trails’ finishers, having hiked all 350 miles of 87 Catskill trails.
