Othello Final Assessment

Purpose: To show understanding of the main themes of Othello. You will create a character poster. Your poster will answer one of the themes depicted in our role playing exercise and listed on the back. Choose the best characters to depict each theme.

  1. individual theme must be displayed at the top of poster with character identified separately
  2. quotes as evidence to prove paragraph – properly cited
  3. visual representation of how the theme is represented in Othello

Graded on how well your poster “shows” the theme you have chosen.

To earn all the 25 points for your poster, the work must show real effort. No stick figures, unrelated quotes or sloppy writing will be accepted. The audience should be able to easily see and understand all parts of the poster; neatness is important.All items must be typed/written in a font large enough to be read.

Presentation is worth 25 points and must include understanding of the themes, knowledge of the work (Othello), and relationship between characters and theme. Presentation should be rehearsed and exhibit all qualities of good public speaking.

** You can not have the same theme as another person within your writing group. Your group will go up to the front of the room to present, but YOU will only talk to describe YOUR own poster.**

1. Role play a conversation with a friend. Determine how you will exact revenge on someone who has wronged you; you may not cause physical harm and you must not get caught.

2. A new student has moved to your school from a foreign country. Your classmates are not treating him/her well. Decide on a good way to improve this situation.

3. Role Play a conversation between a coach and an athlete: You are to convince the coach that you deserve the starting position that you have worked so hard for but has been taken by a more talented new player.

4. You want to be voted most popular student in the senior class, but there are two other students in close running. Plan a strategy with a friend that would ensure that you get the votes.

5. You and your friends want to pull a prank without being caught. Role play the conversation you have to plan the prank – discuss how you would get the wanted attention of your peers without being detected by the authorities.

6. Someone has spread a lie about you. How will you reestablish your good name?

8. Your boyfriend (girlfriend) is jealous and thinks that you are cheating. Convince him that you are not.

9. Your child won’t do what you want (hanging out with a bad crowd, coming home late, ignoring rules). Role play a conversation between parent and child to resolve this issue. Include an outside person (psychologist, counselor, teacher, grandparent) to help mediate.

10. You have an item missing and you think a friend may have taken it (they have). Convince them to tell the truth and return the item.
