Social Studies Grading Policy

Quarter grades are computed by using the scale below. Final grades are computed by averaging the four quarter grades and the final exam grade.

Tests 55%

Quizzes 25%

Homework 10%

Classwork and Participation 10%

Exact due dates for all assignments will be posted on http://new.schoolnotes.com/afxendiou/ .

·  Missed tests must be made up at the earliest opportunity. Make-up tests will be given during extra help times or by appointment. It is your responsibility to make arrangements to make up missed tests. No make-ups will be allowed if you cut a class – IT IS A ZERO!

·  Projects are due on the date I specify on the assignment. Every day late (without valid reason given to me in writing by your parents) will cost you 5 points. Late homework is not accepted unless you are legally absent for the entire school day.

·  Quizzes will usually be announced but there will be some surprise ones along the way. A major part of your quiz grade will be the notebook quizzes at the end of each unit. You will be expected to have all handouts, completed homework assignments and notes in an organized binder.

·  Homework assignments will be on the board for you to copy when you walk into class. If you are absent or for some other reason you do not have the assignment check new.schoolnotes.com/afxendiou/ . Homework can only be made up for valid absences, not for cuts, and at a reasonable time after return.

DO NOT PROCRASTINATE - Manage your time wisely. There is a lot of work and as stated above, excuses about how much you have to do in addition to history will not be accepted. Do not leave things to the last minute, it doesn’t work.

·  Plagiarism – Plagiarism is copying from a source without giving credit to the person who wrote the document. It is a sure way to a zero.

o  If you plagiarize, especially from the internet, you will receive a ZERO on the assignment.

o  If you plagiarize someone else’s work, you will BOTH receive a ZERO

o  In all cases of plagiarism your parents will be contacted

o  REMEMBER, IT IS AS EASY FOR ME TO CATCH YOU AS IT IS FOR YOU TO CHEAT.

What else is expected of you

·  You are expected to follow ALL school rules:

o  NO HATS OR HOODS UP

o  NO CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC GADGETS

o  PROPER ATTIRE

o  PROPER LANGUAGE

o  HAVE A PASS IF YOU ARE LATE

·  My class rules:

o  RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR TOWARDS ALL DO NOT INTERUPT WHEN SOMEONE IS TALKING – WAIT YOUR TURN

o  NO HURTFUL LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOR

o  COME TO CLASS PREPARED – DO READING, COMPLETE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT, HAVE YOUR BINDER AND A PEN OR PENCIL

o  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR BEHAVIOR – YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR DETENTIONS – EXPLANATION AND TRAINING WILL TAKE PLACE IN CLASS.

Come to extra help if you feel there is something you do not understand, if you feel you need to go over a concept or lesson, if you are having trouble meeting any of the requirements, or if you simply want to talk.
