The Partnership for Excellence – 2015 Quest for Success Conference

Celebrating 16 Years of Performance Excellence!

September 14-15, 2015

Polaris Hilton, Columbus, Ohio

The Partnership for Excellence is seeking qualified speakers to present at our 2015Quest for Success Conference. The event will be held on September 14-15, 2015 at the Polaris Hilton, Columbus, Ohio (I-71 Polaris exit).

Individuals volunteering to speak at the 2015Quest for Success Conference must submit the following completed Request For Proposal (RFP) for consideration.

Proposals must be submitted to TPE not later than April 10, 2015.

Speakers are responsible for travel and meal expenses

Speakers interested in participating in other sessions or in conference meals may register for the conference at when conference registration opens.

Breakfast and lunch on the day of presentation are free.

All speakers must register on the conference website when registration opens.

Please enter "Presenter" in the "Other Special Needs" block.

Register and submit payment for additional days, awards banquet, or golf classic.

Session Title: Work Systems Demystified Category: 2, Strategic Planning

Summary:

In this interactive session, you’ll learn the answers to your key questions about work systems, including: What are they? Why do they matter? How do they relate to my organization’s processes and core competencies? Then we’ll explore how you can use those answers to define and improve existing work systems, design new ones and make critical decisions regarding outsourcing.

Participants will learn:

  • What work systems are and how they relate to core competencies and processes.
  • The factors that differentiate work systems within an organization.
  • How to use this knowledge to define and improve their work systems, including how to decide when to outsource.

Content Description:

This session uses a combination of presentation, examples, and discussion to:

-Define work systems and their key characteristics.

-Explain how work systems relate to core competencies and internal processes.

-Show participants how to define and improve existing work systems, and design new ones.

-Explore key considerations in deciding whether to manage processes internally or outsource them.

The session incorporates participant questions and exercises designed to reinforce learning and help participants gain confidence in their ability to define and manage work systems.

Bio:

As principal of Management Insights since 1996, Vicki L. Spagnol, brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to a diverse group of clients, helping them to achieve success with the Baldrige Criteria. She served on the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award from 1993 through 2002, including five years as a Senior Examiner and three years as a member of the Panel of Judges. She remains an active contributor to the Baldrige program and the Keystone Alliance for Performance Excellence, Pennsylvania’s Baldrige program. Prior to establishing Management Insights, Vicki worked for American Express, where she was Vice President for Quality and Customer Service for Travel Related Services. She holds a BA from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Summary:

In this session, ProMedica Flower Hospitalwill share what they have done to keep the momentum going as they continue their journey of excellence after achieving the 2012 Governor’s Award.

Participants will learn:

  • How Flower Hospital has taken their journey of excellence to new levels.
  • How department profiles and Journey of Excellence boards help ensure fully deployed, consistent, aligned communication.
  • Approaches to Leadership and Physician development around the Baldrige framework.

Content Description:

This session uses a combination of presentation, examples, and visual aids to:

-Share specific steps/activities/learning’s taken to move the organization to the next level.

-Identify methods of deployment within an organization to achieve alignment.

-Describe how leadership and physician development around the Baldrige framework can improve engagement and integration.

Bios:

Barb Conover currently serves as the Director of Quality and Accreditation for ProMedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio providing leadership, direction, and support to all medical, regulatory, Joint Commission and quality management processes. Barb is just completing her first year as a National Malcolm Baldrige Examiner and has two years’ experience as a state examiner. She has contributed to Flower’s Baldrige journey of excellence including application writing for categories 3 and 4, coordinating TPE site visits in 2011 and 2012, and being a resource to Leadership and staff in use of the Baldrige framework. ProMedica Flower Hospital achieved the Governor’s award in 2012. Barb holds a BSN degree from Lourdes University and MSN from the University of Toledo.

Terry Jacobs currently serves as Director of Radiology Services at ProMedica Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio providing leadership, direction, and support to all medical imaging departments. Terry has been involved with Flower’s Baldrige Journey since 2006. He has served as a state examiner including currently participating as a TPE, Advising and Partnering Coach. He has contributed to Flower’s Baldrige journey of excellence through application writing, site visit preparation and leadership development around the Baldrige framework. ProMedica Flower Hospital achieved the Governor’s award in 2012. Terry holds Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Toledo and a MBA from Bowling Green State University.

Session Title: Using Performance Management Process to Engage the Workforce Category 5, Workforce Focus

Summary:

HR professionals will provide information on how to foster a strong organizational culture that is conducive to high performance and a workforce that is accountable and highly-engaged. Best practices will be explained by highlighting the use of an electronic performance management system to enhance employee performance that aligns to hospital measures and targets.

Participants will learn:

- The attendee will be able to identify key elements in driving an organizational culture that is characterized by open communication, high performance work and an engaged workforce.

- The attendee will learn various performance management and leader development techniques to focus on achievement of strategic objectives.

Content Description:

HR professionals will provide information on how to foster a strong organizational culture that is conducive to high performance and a workforce that is accountable and highly-engaged. Best practices will be explained by highlighting multiple approaches to communication methodologies and alignment to strategic objectives. Validation of in process and outcome measures for each of these key approaches will be illustrated. An explanation will be given on our Performance Management Process that is utilized for performance evaluation and workforce/leader development.

Bios:

Sally has worked at Union Hospital for 36 years. In 2006, she was named the V.P. of Human Resources. Throughout her career, she has held various leadership positions ranging from Nursing Care Manger to Director of Education & Pharmacy. She graduated from Indiana State University with a BS and MS in Nursing. She obtained her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources in 2010.

Joanne has worked at Union Hospital for 25 years and currently serves as the System Director of Human Resources & Staff Development. Prior positions at Union Hospital include Benefits and Compensation Manager and HR Specialist. She graduated from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island in 1985 with a BS in Business Management.

Edith Okoth has worked at Union Hospital for 5 years and is the System Manager of Human Resources. She graduated with a BS in computer Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology (JKUAT), in Nairobi, Kenya in 1996. She joined Indiana State University as a graduate student and obtained an MS in Human Resource Development in 2008.
