At the end of our Sunday Service, our voices are lifted in praise of God. The simple but meaningful words of our Doxology are:
Praise God in whom all being is.
Praise Him for word and form are His
Praise Him all ye His truth proclaim.
Sing joyful praise unto His name. Amen
We know that praising God is more than just saying or singing of words. To offer true praise to God, we must first understand His nature as Allness and Wholeness and Truth; knowing that all of Being is of Him and in Him. To praise Him aright is to know that His creation flows always from Invisible Expression into visible form; all of this is His. To praise Him is to recognize and acknowledge His Truth in every circumstance. To fully and joyfully sing His praise is to consistently honor His Holy Name as our own; for so it is.
Thank you, Father, that prayer and praise are guideposts on the pathway leading us Home.

The net income for the final quarter shows a net income of $15,687.33. This large amount is due to the generous end of the year donations and tithes from church members and friends to whom we are most grateful.
Our thanks to the bookstore managers who gave the church general fund a gift of $2,000 at the end of 2010.
Also included here is the Profit and Loss Statement for the entire 2010 church year. The net income after all our expenses for the year is $3,175.15.

Our American fund investments for both the General and Retirement funds netted significant earnings during the month of December. The General fund increased by a total of $12,835.00 from $254,146.00 to $266,981.00; the Retirement fund increased by a total of $8,899.00 from $179,632.00 to $188,531. The totals gain of the account combined is $21,734.00.
The balance in the General Fund checking account at the end of December was $49,437.72.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School always looks forward to the Christmas Season because we get the gift of having some of our alumni come to visit us. This year was no exception! Ms Kiana McNair stopped in for our Christmas Eve Candlelight service and surprised me while I was preparing the cookies and hot chocolate. I hate to admit it, but I didn’t even recognize her! She is 13 years old and so grown up! She goes to a DC Charter School, makes great grades, dances, cheerleads, plays sports and she is already having thoughts about going off to college! Kiana is a beautiful young woman and I was delighted to see her.
Also making a return appearance to the church is our alumnus, James Tomaski. He is now a handsome, young man – 20 years old, with a full-time job. We hope he keeps coming back.

BOOKSTORE FINANCES
The bookstore continues to do a steady business in the sale of books and CDs. Book sales in 2010 totaled 3,794.00. CD sales brought in a total of $2,525.27 due in large part to the sale of the set of CD’s from Dr. Al Salazar’s spiritual retreat held in August and his Sunday lessons delivered from our pulpit.
Included below is the Profit and Loss Statement for the quarter ending December 31, 2010. This statement shows a net loss of $626.26. The bottom line net loss is not what it seems but rather the result of our having made the gift of $2,000 to the church general fund.

IN MEMORIAM
It is with sadness that I report two of our beloved long-time members made their transition in the last few months.
Millie Williams
Millie Williams became a member of the Church in 1973. She was active in the Alumni Association and attended the Thursday morning Study Group for many years. She had been a high school English and art teacher in Odessa, MO, and a school crossing guard in McLean, VA. A loving note sent by her children said that “she died as she lived: peacefully, quietly, with dignity and with her earrings on.” We miss you, Millie.
Howard Jones
Howard Jones became a member of the Church in 2006, surprising many of us who assumed he had been a member for a long time. He had been coming since the 1980s. Howard completed the basic course of study in Divine Science. Many of us knew and loved Howard from his regular attendance at church on Sundays, participation in the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday class and study groups, from his participation in the Alumni Silent Meditation Walk in 2009, and from just about any other church activity. A memorial service was held on January 9, 2011 at the Church. His gentle, kind presence was and will always be a joy.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Wayne Gatewood gave an inspiring and rousing presentation on the Beatitudes, with particular focus on “Blessed are the meek.”
He stressed that the Beatitudes summarize the whole of Christian teaching. Meek has a special meaning – it is a mental attitude which combines open-mindedness, faith in God and the realization that the Will of God for us is always much better than anything we could think of for ourselves. Emmet Fox also says that it includes a perfect willingness to allow this Will of God to come about in whatever way Divine Wisdom considers to be best. Thank you, Wayne for the truth you shared with us.
On Sunday, February 6, 2011, Margaret Greenblatt will give a presentation about the beatitude – “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness.”

FLOWERS
There are still openings on the 2011 Flower Calendar. If you would like to contribute flowers for Sunday services, please sign up early so that you can choose your special dates. The cost per Sunday is $45 and the flowers are yours to take after the service.
