Regular Meeting Minutes

February 21, 2015

Business meeting proceeded dinner and educational program on Xarelto. Thank you to Mr. Lou Schwartz from Johnson and Johnson for sponsoring the program and dinner.

Introduction of officersChange of position for Eileen O’Toole, replaced by Sheila Gealey.

Education ScheduleSave the Date:April 18, 2015 – Pharmacology workshop featuring Wendy Wright – at a whole program 9-4pm. Planning 6.0 pharmacy credits. Attendance is limited to 80 spaces. It was proposed and voted that we would share costs with Erie NP group. There will be no exhibitors. Penn State Shendango campus will be letting us use the space for free, but we will use the treasury if there are additional costs. The fee for Wendy Wright is $3500 and expenses. Individual fee for the program will cover continental breakfast and a box lunch.

May 14 – Annual meeting and banquet – Cranberry Sheraton, with a raffle, and gift card give away.

5:00 – Networking and hor-de-orves

6:30 – Business meeting

7:00 – Speaker – MD speaking on antibiotic resistance; Dr. Amesh Adalja

NPSPA WebsiteCheck out new site for updates. MJ is the administrator. Looking to post short vignettes that were filmed at PCNP to support what NPs do in their practice.

Treasurer’s report Sharon reviewed treasurer’s report for membership

PA-NP Updates from

Sheila Amy and Mike (representatives from our marketing org) have met and continue to meet with senators and representatives about professional licensure and credentialing to enhance our ability to practice.

Proposed Bill 1063 giving NPs full authority has been posted on the PCNP website; please read this. We are seeking legislators for support of the bill. Melody will be helping to support the bill to find sponsors.

Don’t forget Lobby Day is on May 20, 2015.

Student awardsJoan Gregory reminded us that two NP student awards are to be presented this spring at the annual meeting. The Shirley Neglie award to be given to a NP student from the University of Pittsburgh, and the other is awarded to and outstanding student from one of the other NP programs in southwest PA. Please send applications for potential candidates to Joan Gregory.

Officers for 2015-16Please consider running for office for next year. If you aren’t interested in running, encourage others to participate. If you are interested, please let Kathy Magdic know.

New BusinessThere is a question about the new requirements to include CE credits for license renewal that include child abuse. UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh now have a link so you can complete these CE credits online for free. MJ will send out this link. There are 3 credits for 3 hours – which meets the requirement.
