Homework #1

NAME ______PD ______

Number of Pronouns

DIRECTIONS: In the following story, underline the personal pronouns. Then draw an arrow back to the antecedent (the word the pronoun replaces).

One day, my friends and I decided to build a sand castle. We had seen amazing pictures from contests, and we thought we could build a simple one. I told my friends that we would need buckets and shovels. They were already at the beach when I arrived. I saw a hot-dog stand run by a man from our neighborhood. He waved at us, and we waved back. We started to dig in the sand and pile it up. My friends began carving towers and walls. Although they had never done this before, their castle looked great. They even put a moat around it, and then they put a drawbridge across the moat. My friends Jill and Serena said, "Would you go buy us some hot dogs and something to drink?" We enjoyed building our castle, and we later saw it wash away with the tide.

Homework# 5

Name ______PD ______

I/me/we/us worksheet

Directions: Underline the correct pronouns in the following paragraph:

It was a cold, dreary morning. Suddenly, (I, me) realized that my alarm had not gone off and my clock was blinking 7:25! Dashing out of bed, (I, me) ran downstairs to see if maybe the clock was wrong. It was not! No one else was home with(I, me) at the time and (I, me) knew (I, me) needed to get ready in a hurry and get to school. Luckily, (we, us) lived within reasonable walking distance, so if (I, me) was quick, I may just make it into homeroom on time. I could not afford another tardy, or a weekend detention would be given to (I, me). After quickly showering (trust (I, me), it was necessary), I dressed, grabbed my books and headed out the door at 7:42.

(I, Me) closed the door behind me, checking to make sure it was locked and turned to take off for school. BAM! (I, me) was on the ground before I knew what had happened to (I, me). After the daze wore off, I realized there was a sheet of ice on the ground. Rubbing my side, (I, me) picked myself up and dashed off for school as quick as (I, me) could without sustaining further injury.

Since I was in such a hurry, I did not notice the lack of cars in the parking lot. I looked at my watch…7:48…still two minutes to get to homeroom. I would make it! I grabbed the frozen handle of the door and was stopped cold. It would not open. I tried another, and then another…no luck. When I got to the last chance, a posted sign read, “School is running on a 2-hour delay today due to the weather conditions. (We, Us) will re-open at 9:30”.

Oops. Oh well, I called up some friends and (we, us) decided that the best thing to do would be to get some breakfast at the local diner. They served up the best omelets any of (we, us) had ever had. (We, Us) sat there for a while and enjoyed the meal before (we, us) decided to head off for school.

This time my friends and (I, me) had made it on time. Another adventure awaits (I, me) on another day, I am sure.
