NARP Region 1 Meeting

Tom attended the National Association of Railroad Passengers regional meeting on April 2 at New London, CT. The key topics were Amtrak bridge replacement in CT and FY 2006 funding. Amtrak engineering staff discussed the plans for replacing the lift spanson the Thames, CT and Niantic river bridges and NARP Exec. Dir. Ross Capon discussed the 2006 funding issues for Amtrak. Also important for us was NH Board member Steve Pesci's report on the ongoing negotiations regarding the CMAQ funding for the Downeaster.

501 (c)(3)

Tom gave an update on the organization’s non-profit status and reported that we are now legally registered according to the requirements of the State of NH Dept of Justice. A revised Certificate of Registration datedMarch 3, 2005 was provided. Based on a discussion he had with a tax accountant, dues and any other contributions to NHRRA are tax deductible to the extent that no gift or other material award is received in return.

Advertising

Bill suggested that NHRRA hold off from advertising on NH Public Radio until September to give us time to get organized and get our web site complete. Until then we should be gathering ideas on what specifically we would like to say in the first ten short radio spots. It is understood that these spots are only around 10-15 seconds long, so we need to choose our message carefully.
