3rd GRADE NEWS

APRIL 13-17, 2015

Reading/Writing: "Dog of the Sea Waves". Reading comprehension skills: Author's purpose and questioning Vocabulary: voyage, lava, rippled, arrival, bay, guided, anchor, twisted, spotted (as in seen), aboard.

Spelling: Blend, read, and write words with prefixes un- and re- Words: unfold, rejoin, untie, reheat, unfair, unclear, repaid, rewrite, unhurt, recheck, unlucky, unwrap, reuse, unsure, reread, unsafe, unbuckle, unknown, rehearsal, unorganized.

Language: Identify adverbs. Adverbs describe verbs and tell how, when, or where

Math: Measurement Chapter 10. Use a ruler to measure inches to nearest whole, half, and quarter (1/4) inch. Compare fractions.

Many students still do not know their multiplication facts. They must have them memorized by the end of third grade. Your child will be behind if he/she does not know them fluently before fourth grade.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Art in the Park this Friday night
  • The following are coming up field trips. Please sign the permission forms and return them with cash or check made out to Forest Park. Please return ASAP 
  • Friday, April 24th Parkview Talent Show ($4.00). We do not need parents to attend because seating is limited.
  • Tuesday, May 5th, Heifer Ranch ($5.00). Students need a drink and sack lunch. We do need parent volunteers to supervise students.
  • Monday, May 18th State Capitol and AR Supreme Court (free). Students need a drink and sack lunch. We do need parent volunteers to supervise students.
  • Check your child's agenda book(initial) and homework folder EVERY EVENING
  • Have your child read every night, including weekends, for roughly 30 minutes. Also, set aside some time to read with your child a couple of times a week. This will help with his/her reading skills and make him/her feel special.
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS FOLLOWING THE DRESS CODE (see page 4 of the Agenda Book). On Friday children may wear a Forest Park T-shirt and denim(blue) jeans; if they do not wear blue jeans they should wear khaki or navy bottoms.
  • Please make sure your child is getting at least 8 hours of sleep every night and healthy meals, along with lots of love and support!!!! It will make a difference in your child's success and behavior, as well as, your sanity!
