Additional Information:

  • The suitability of all prospective candidates is subject to verification by NPHS faculty and staff. This may impact your ability to participate in the election.

Campaigning Guidelines:

  • Campaign posters can be hung around campus (with blue/painter’s tape ONLY) starting the Mondayof campaign week and must be down by 8 a.m. the school day following the election.
  • Campaign posters can only be hung up within the gates of NPHS and within the black boxes/on fences, trees, railings, etc., and cannot cover any school sign, emblem, or mural. (Please do not hang posters on the yellow murals in front of the B and C buildings.)
  • Campaign funds are limited to $50. This includes donations, and you must submit your receipts. If it is suspected that you spent more than the above amount, you will be removed from the ballot. This is to provide equal opportunity for all candidates.
  • Any candidate seen removing, covering, or defacing any other candidates’ posters will be immediately removed from the election and will not appear on the ballot.
  • All fliers, posters, and other forms of publicity must be in good taste and must not stereotype or discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background, gender, etc. No reference may be made or implied in connection to alcohol, drugs, or any kind of illicit behavior.
  • Campaign materials are not allowed on the voting booth during voting.
  • No verbally campaigning on the quad during voting.
  • No food, gum, candy, (neither homemade nor packaged), etc. may be distributed during campaigning week.
  • Remember to be a positive role model in all forms of campaigning, including social media.

Job Descriptions/Prerequisites:

General Qualifications (all criteria are established by the ASG advisors and administration).

All students holding the class officer positions described below must:

  1. Have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of their candidacy (verified with counselor signature), and maintain the same academic standard for the duration of their term.
  2. Demonstrate exemplary behavior prior to becoming a class officer, verified with a signature from the Dean of Activities.
  3. Maintain a minimum of 90% attendance per semester, verified with a signature from the attendance office.
  4. Have been part of a Newbury Park High School class board at any time previous to running for Senior Class President.
  5. Anyone running for treasurer must have completed up to Algebra 2 with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in mathematics classes.
  6. A student may also not be allowed to run for office, as determined by the ASG advisor(s) and administration, if he/she has committed any suspendable offense during high school, or has committed any other inappropriate behavior, such as academic dishonesty, during high school.
  7. A student cannot serve as President of their class if they are also serving as ASG President or ASG Vice President.
  8. At least two members of each class board must be enrolled in the ASG class.
  9. At least the President or Vice President from each class will be enrolled in the ASG class, in addition to another class board member.
  10. Class officers will be subject to evaluation by the ASG board, ASG advisors, and class advisors between term 1 and term 2, and may be asked to review their position requirements if necessary.

Job Descriptions

  1. President
  2. Runs any meetings of the class cabinet or other class-related functions.
  3. Represents the class at all Site Council Meetings.
  4. Represents the class at all Student Advisory Board Meetings.
  5. Plans class fundraisers (with the class advisor, vice president, and treasurer), homecoming involvement, and other class activities.

  2. Oversees recruitment for all spirit activities to represent the class.
  3. Works with the president, class advisor, and administrative advisor to plan class fundraisers and activities.
  4. Prepares at all times to successfully plan and run class meetings and activities in the absence of president.
  5. Represents the class at all Site Council meetings andSABmeetings in the absence of the president.
  6. Secretary
  7. Takes minutes at class meetings or other class functions.
  8. Delivers the meeting minutes to the Activities office and keeps a record on file.
  9. Oversees bulletin requests and other notices for class events.
  10. Advertises for class events.
  1. Treasurer
  2. Presents fundraising ideas for approval to the class advisor and administration.
  3. Oversees and organizes fundraisers.
  4. Verifies revenue by performing a second count of all money from class fundraisers.
  5. Is responsible for handling all financial records, including the writing of all purchase orders and check requests for the class, and submits them to ASG.
  6. In charge of requesting and maintaining cash boxesfor all class events.

Impeachment of Class Officers

  1. Concerned students, staff, or faculty may submit a request for examination of a class officer to ASG and administration at any time. From there, it will be the responsibility of the ASG class and administration to evaluate that class officer’s performance and contributions.

2. If impeachment is deemed necessary, a vote will be called, requiring a simple majority in the ASG class and a supermajority (two-thirds, or 67%) ofthe SAB (with a quorum of at least 25) in order to pass.

  1. Grounds for impeachment may include:
  2. Failure to attend all assigned activities.
  3. Failure to function properly in a leadership capacity.
  4. Failure to follow through on activities initiated by their class board.
  5. Failure to acceptably represent NPHS to the community and/or violation the Co-curricular Contract.
  6. Failure to maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA prior to running, and maintain this same academic standard for the duration of their term in office.
  7. Failure to maintain satisfactory school attendance (90%).
  8. Failure to follow all rules and responsibilities required of his or her position.
  9. If impeachment occurs, the class officer in question will be asked to step down immediately from his or her board position. The Executive Board of the ASG class will choose a qualified prospective appointee to any vacated class officer position from within the ASG class, and a majority vote by all members of ASG class will he required for confirmation.
  10. Any class officer who has been impeached and removed from office may not run for any class officer position or ASG officer position, unless given prior approval by administration and the ASG/class advisor(s).
