Pastoral Planning Bulletin Announcements

April 17 ~ Fourth Sunday of Easter
It must have been quite a scene: Paul and Barnabas preaching about Jesus to a large crowd, but angry onlookers, “…with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said.”. That doesn’t stop Paul and Barnabas, they continue to speak out boldly, until they are run out of town by prominent members of the community. The key to evangelization is in the last line of the passage: “The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit”. Perhaps an odd reaction to being “expelled from the territory” but, not an odd reaction to sharing the story of God’s love for us and Jesus’ gift of salvation. Try it – share the Good News with someone you know – someone who is not here with us each week. You will find your joy in this.

April 24 ~ Fifth Sunday of Easter
Paul and Barnabas tell the other disciples, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” The Church is undergoing many hardships today, too. What will turn the tide? In 51 words from today’s Gospel – a bit longer than a Tweet - Jesus gives a simple command: “…I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” Ah, but here’s the rub, it may not be as simple as it sounds. Read carefully: “As I have loved you…” Jesus is ‘kicking it up a notch’. Not just love one another, but love as He loves. This can be hard work, and it may take practice, but here’s the payoff, “This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
