Introducing…

Suggested completion date: ASAP(estimated time to complete: 10 - 15 minutes)

  1. Log in to myBlueprint. On the Home page click the Portfolios tab.
  2. On the My Portfolios page click+Add Portfolio; title it myBlueprint Portfolio 2018. Enter the description as Work for Graduation Transition Plan completed in myBlueprintand click Save.
  3. Inside the portfolio, click + Add Box and click +Journalto create a custom box.
  4. Upload a current picture of yourself, title the box Introducing… Enter the description as your first and last name and click Save.
  5. Click the three gray vertical dots on the top right of the box and choose whatever colour you like for the box.
  6. Click +Reflections at the bottom of the box and enter the following information:
  7. The name your normally go by
  8. Two or three interesting facts about you and/or your family
  9. A brief summary of your achievements over the past three years: grades, awards, certifications, personal changes, challenges you have overcome, volunteering, etc. You may create up to two additional boxes (with the same title Introducing… and colour) and upload any related pictures
  10. Where you see yourself in a year’s time
  11. Your hobbies, pastimes, or interests
  12. What is your greatest strength, and what area you would like to work on
  13. Two people in your life who believe you will be a success
  14. How your time in high school has helped you grown into the person you are now
  15. One wish, hope, or dream for this school year
  16. Click +Add Reflection when you are finished.
  17. Click +Update Banner Image at the top of your portfolio to add a banner image.
  18. Click Change Avatar in the circle to change your avatar image.

Transition Planning

Suggested completion date: ASAP, and no later than Friday Dec 1, 2017

Log in to myBlueprint:

  1. On the Home page click the Goals tab:
  • to add a Goal, click +Add Goal
  • determine a Goal you wish to set, choose the type and timeframe of your Goal, and add at least onetask you need to complete to achieve your Goal, and click Add Goal
  • add one more Goalof a different type and timeframe and with at least one task
  • If you are struggling to come up with ideas for Goals, click the Need Ideas? tab (estimated time to complete: 15-20 minutes).
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, click Who Am I:
  • these quizzes are designed to help you discover your strengths, talents, and interests
  • the more accurately you answer these quizzes, the easier it is for myBlueprint to match you to post-secondary opportunities and occupations
  • complete thefive quizzes (estimated time to complete: 30-35 minutes)
  • now click the blue Compatibility Survey link on the far right of the page, and complete at least one of the suggested surveys (estimated time to complete 10-15 minutes)
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, clickHigh School Planner:
  • review the courses listed that you completed in Grade 10 & 11and the courses you are planning to take in Grade 12 to make sure you have enough credits to graduate AND the right credits to qualify for post-secondary programs you are thinking of applying to
  • the planner should show the courses you have completed and your final mark, and courses that are planned or in progress
  • if the planner shows you are not on track to graduate (you are missing any required courses or do not have enough credits to graduate), click View Progress to determine what might be missing
  • if you notice a course missing or inaccurate (perhaps a course you took at summer school or a course you repeated online), get in touch with your counsellor to confirm that you are on track to graduate(estimated time to complete10-30 minutes)
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, click Post-Secondary Planner:
  • here, you can research different post-secondary programs at different institutions all across Canada and in the US
  • the advantage of using this planner over visiting websites of individual institutions is that you can apply filters such as High School Planner, Province & City, Institution, and so on
  • you can search Apprenticeship opportunities, programs at colleges and universities and workplace opportunities by keyword
  • as you browse the different post-secondary opportunities, the planner summarizes important details about the program including cost for first year and entrance requirements, and provides a link to the application and to the institution website, as well as links to similar programs
  • this is a critical section, and one that you may have many questions about; contact your counsellor to discuss further
  • you must “Favourite” at least ONEopportunity (click on the opportunity, then click on the HEART to add it to yourFavourites)
  • keep an open mind in this section – it will be easiest to use if you have completed the previous sections (estimated time to complete will vary, generally 20-40 minutes)
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, clickWork and choose Occupation Planner:
  • in this section, you can look at different occupations, either by a keyword search, applying filters, or see suggestions myBlueprint has made based on the information you have provided so far
  • in addition to descriptions of each occupation, you can see projected demand for employees in this occupation, average salary range, education requirements, videos by people working in the field, and more
  • this is a critical section, and you may end up revisiting the Post-Secondary Planner after researching Occupations. That’s OK!! Again, please see your counsellor with questions
  • you must “Favourite” at least ONE opportunity (click on the opportunity, then click on the HEART to add it to your Favourites)
  • Keep an open mind in this section – it will be easiest to use if you have completed the previous sections (estimated time to complete will vary, generally 20-40 minutes)
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, click Work and choose Resumes:
  • to add a Resume, click +Resume
  • give your resume the title GTP 2018 Resume
  • fill in the fields to complete the different sections
  • write an objective that states what kind of work you are looking for
  • include only your high school education (middle and elementary school are not necessary)
  • in the sections for Work Experience, Extra Curricular, Volunteer Experience, Skills and Abilities, & Achievements, you should have at least two entries
  • in the sections for Certifications and Hobbies & Interests, you should have at least one entry
  • List the names and contact information for THREE people that will provide a positive reference for you. They should not be people in your immediate family or household, and should be able to speak to your character (honesty, integrity, punctuality, reliability, etc.). Always ask if you can use their name, and always advise them if a potential employer or organization might be in contact after you go to an interview.
  • click Preview Resume at the bottom right corner of this page to see how your resume will look
  • click Change Design to see different formats
  • click Switch Order to change the order of your sections
  • click Export (at the bottom right corner of this page) and Download as Word to open your resume in Microsoft word so you may spellcheck, and make any necessary corrections
  • once you are satisfied with the Preview of your resume, click Add to Portfolio(estimated time to complete 30 minutes)
  1. From the pop-out menu on the left side of the Home Screen, click Money:
  • to add a budget, click +Add Budget
  • give your budget the title GTP 2018 Budget and select the start date as September 2018
  • click +Add Income/Expense and click +Add Income to record all your sources of income
  • if you have not yet had a conversation with your family about how your first post-secondary year will look financially, there is no time like the present!
  • include estimates of any awards (scholarships or bursaries), student loans, or gifts you think you may receive
  • click +Add Income/Expense and click +Add Expense to record all your projected expenses; you need at least TEN income/expense items (in total) included in your budget(estimated time to complete 20-30 minutes)

myBlueprintPortfolio 2018

Suggested completion date: ASAP after completing Transition Planning, and no later than Friday, Dec 22nd (estimated time to complete 20-30 minutes)

  1. Log in to myBlueprint. On the Home page click the Portfolios tab.
  2. On the My Portfolios page click myBlueprint Portfolio 2018.
  3. Click +Add Boxthen click +Add Recent – here you will see the sections you have been working on from the Menu of myBlueprint.
  4. Select each section and click the blue and white +Add button to add each activity to your portfolio (note that you should already have the Introducing… box in your portfolio).
  5. Once you have added all your sections, you can edit them, add reflections, and rearrange the order on your screen:
  6. Change all of your Career Spectrum Results (Personality, Interests, Knowledge, Learning Styles, Motivations) to the same colour as your Introducing… box; these boxes should be at the beginning of your portfolio.
  7. Choose a different colour for your Goals; they should be grouped together after the previous boxes
  8. Chose a third colour for all the remaining Transition Planning sections (High School Planner, Post-Secondary Planner, Occupation Planner, Resume, Budget), and try to arrange them in this order

  • Once the log (title: physical activity log) has been completed, upload it to your myBlueprint Portfolio 2018
