My First Impression of the First English Lesson

My First Impression of the First English Lesson

My first impression of the first English lesson

I have already studied English for many years. But why my English level is still so low? I have learnt many vocabularies, grammar. But I can’t get satisfied satisfactory grade in hkceeHKCEE. I am now a form six student and I am very nervous because I know that I need to learn Use of English. I think Use of English is a very difficult subject. It is very different from English language. But I still don’t know what is the meaning of “Use of English”. What will I learn from it?

Last Thursday, I had my first English lesson. I was walking down the stair and towards the classroom. I thought was wondering what I would do in the lesson and who my English teacher iswould be. When I walked in the room, I saw my English teacher, Mrs. Leung. Then she stared the lesson quickly. She asked us some questions in fluent English. She asked what the different difference between “Use of English” and “English language” iswas. I only know that it is more difficult and the subject name is changed. And all my classmates also had the same impression.

Then my teacher explained the different difference to us by using the power point. She told us that English language only let us know how to write grammatical English, speak in English for communication fluently and understand spoken English. And it also helps us to read English for general understanding, e.g. English newspaper and some paragraph in the textbooks. But Use of English is more useful. It is because it can improve our English language skill for tertiary education and employment in the future, e.g. understand spoken English in academic and vocational situations. It also let us to know how to write a clear and concise English in different formats such as application letter and some proposals. And we can learn how to understand and use spoken English for practical communication, e.g. jobs interviews and presentations.

After the lesson, I learned many things about this subject.

I know that it is very useful in our dairy daily life and it is very interesting. Although it is very difficult, I will try my best and practice more by reading English newspaper and watching English programs, e.g. Discovery channel. I hope I can improve my English skill in these two years and get a good grade in the AL exam.

Actually, your English is not bad! Just do the work as you’re told. I’m sure you’ll do a lot better!
