Academic

James Auren

James is a joy to have in class. He is hard working and does a great job of helping other students to learn. He is always thinking about his learning and how he will benefit by grasping each concept taught in class. His work is always done on time and to a high level of quality.

Kaitlyn Walford

Kaitlyn is a great student to have in class. She always gets her work done and it is always done to the best of her abilities. She always has an upbeat attitude and works hard to improve herself whenever she can. She is helpful to the other students whenever she can and asks good questions to improve her understanding.

Character

Charles Wasson

Last week he has shown consideration and helpfulness by helping the lunch ladies when they were carrying out many boxes to throw outside under the heavy cold rain. He helped them and kept the door open under the rain until they were done.

Walter Sarmiento

Walter is always smiling. He has tried his best under the circumstances and has done well.

Art

Kasen Grengs

Kasen has taken one semester of Clay class each year for four years. Kason has developed his skills as a potter to a level that is comparable to professional potters. He has won numerous awards this year, including a Silver Key Award at the Scholastic Art Awardscompetition, sponsored by USD at Vermillion, and Best of Show at the Youth Art Show in Flandreau. It is fair to say that Pottery has become an integral part of Kasen's life.

Boys’ Track

Kyle Johnson

Kyle has done a tremendous job this year with his work ethic and attitude. He has continually improved this year in both the shot put and discus. It has become the norm for Kyle to PR at every track meet this season. The coaching staff is excited to see what he is capable of doing this conference season.

Girls' Track

Kylie Bertram

Kylie is our lone senior girl who has an infectious attitude and has shown great leadership for the girls’ team. Whether she is running in relays with upperclassman or underclassman her will to do well does not change. She continues to get better and better at each track meet, which is a testament to her work ethic.

A ballot is created and voted on by the high school staff. The top two from the academic and character categories receive the spotlight for that month.

Coaches/advisors from the various activities nominate their own recipients for the spotlight. The schedule for what activates are recognized each month is outlined below.

September = Football and Chorus

October = Cross country and Band

November = Volleyball and Oral Interp

December = Wrestling and Art

January = BBB and 1 Act Play

February = GBB and Chorus

March = FFA and Band

April = Golf and All school play

May = Track and Art
